How bout we have a thread to sign in and out of our rides? Lets face it we live and ride in the Rocky Mountains ( Thank God!) and we are very tight bunch. I know there are several groups out today. it would be nice just to be able to click and see CC SS Etc. made it home ok? What do you guys think? The snow being as sketchy as it is I was with my family today and keep wondering how my boys were? Let me know, Im not paranoid, or maybe I am a bit?

I'm safe kev, the pow is very very deep!!!!!!!
Going back tomorrow

Warning- it's very very deep, so leave your white hood m8 at home
If you happen to have one of these famous slow sleds

We're home....just came down off Bountiful with Phatty, CCPowder, Product Tester, Sledhead Ut, Mick and Brandon.

Snow was DEEP....bottomless......and snowing/blizzard. Got a little turned around coming off the mountain due to blizzard conditions....otherwise safe!

I'm back:D great first ride. I got a call EARLY this morning telling me my sled was got done last night. We picked it up and ran up SoapStone (headed south once hit the highway and ended up close to Nobblets), DEEP! sled was over tachin a little but a great first ride. Be carefull still, i saw two sleds mangled from rocks in the parking lot. As SS said bountiful was was, it was a blizzard over towards nobblets too. Be carefull in the Soapstone parking lot, there is some wanna be super ranger who went as far as checking the Vin Numbers on our sleds, he was inspecting everyones hard!

Made it home safe and sound. Storming like a mother up by double hill. Snow was pretty decent, bottomless though. Up in the flats storming bad enough just had to stay on the throttle and try keep the trail posts in sight and be prepared for impact. Good day though. Got a feel for the new D8, which I must say handles awesome with a bent A arm I didn't know about until I loaded. I didn't think I hit anything hard enough to cause any damage must have clipped something just right though. If it is what I think it is I rode pretty much all day with the right ski about 3" forward of the left.

Need more snow and a base to start forming and we will be set for another good year.

Not the best photo conditions today. New sled, new area for me and white out conditions were interesting. Brought home some shrubbery.hahahaha

Cell photo sucks:

Just got back from AF Canyon. Had a good day. No base and lots of powder. Hopefully get some pictures up later.

just got back from Fairview, it was awful. Cold as he11, blizzard and crappy snow. Found out my grandpa snow tires are worn out when I slowed down to .000000001 mph going up snow canyon in Fairview. A little white knuckle to say the least. Hello Discount Tire..... I did get to ride the new turbo MXZ 1200 and that was cool! check perf for thread on it.

We are back safe from Wolfcreek toady. Not much snow at the parking area but bottomless deep with no base up high. I did manage to cut a small sluff of snow on the road we were riding. The hill was only about 20 feet high from the road. Broke off on top of the ice layer. Got to stay off those big hills for a while.

P.S. If you see a group of people just go over and talk with them to see if they know about the avy danger. I stopped and talked to one group and they didn't know how bad it was. I know they should find this out before they go but just want to make sure everyone makes it home alive this year.

If we're going to do the I got home safe thread we have to start with the "this is were I'm riding and when I should be home thread"..

Posted by date by the first one to have plans; should include the alias of all the known riders in that group..

When you get home you edit your post with the happy ending and any ride report.

That way we can quickly see you sign out to go ride and back in safe.. start working on the rescue posse for those that are overdue and and not signed back in.

If you have a SPOT post the open link to the tracking page (if you paid the extra $50 for that feature).

What say you all? Threads should be titled something like "Riding Thread 12/21/08"

Chief

The only problem with this sort of thread is what if you sign in in the morning, but cant get to a computer to sign in when you get back, and then people send out search and rescue for a dude that is just at the movies with his wife. I guess you should leave your number so people can call and find out if you made it down or not. But who is going to watch over the thread to make sure everyone is back. I can see this happening for a few weeks but think it will fizzle out. Just seems like it will take a lot of work. I think the best thing is when you go ride you tell a few people where you are going and when you should be back. And then tell those people that you made it back safely.

Not saying this wouldn't be a good idea, just throwing out some things to think about.

I agree that unless you're vigilant about posting or calling someone with access to post for you a sign out/sign in thread can lead to some real heartache.

I've been checking in with my dad for years; always let him know where I'm going and when I'll be back. He has the link to my spot page... but some don't have that kind of back up..

So.. suggestions to make Kev's idea work out?

Well let me say it first. If I don't know who the heck you are I wont know your missing. Don't over think this boys. I know the mafia has tripled in size lately, there are people in the "Ut." section from Minnesota. I knew 3 groups riding, i heard from all three. Now Ill bet that the guys I didn't know had buds on here who knew them and thought that is nice they made it back. It goes without saying the more info you put in your post the better off you will be, as long as you go where you say you were going. I have changed direction on the road more than once. It would suck if something did happen and the posse went to the wrong mountain? All I wanted this to be was a tool like the Utah avy site it is a tool it wont save a single life if its not used or followed. Just my $.02
