Made in Mexico

What does that have to do with sledding?

Personal Watercraft production moves more to mexico.

Sleds remain in Valcourt Canada.

Same with Polaris where the liberty snowmobile motors are still made... In the USA..

o snap, that just happened!

Polaris and skidoo engine assembly is moving to Mexico.. Cat is the only manufacture that will be U.S. Built...

Time to go green after 15 years on a Polaris..

Weren't the doo motors already made in Canuckistan? That's practically like Mexico... just north instead of south:face-icon-small-hap

Shoot... I've been on Cat for a while... I'm about to buy my first poo in 8 years!

What we need is a poo with a cat motor... that satisfies a number of needs!:face-icon-small-win

I've never been a big Cat fan but I sure like what they are planning... Hard for me to get off a Polaris but the quality control is going way down hill. Mexico engine assembly is not going to improve the problems. We'll just get more junk for less money.

I've got a new set of take off heads and cylinders from a CFI 8 on my bench now. The porosity is so bad on the castings I wonder how they did not leak antifreeze. They look like swiss cheese. The pistons are clearly sized wrong... I could go on and on.

Outsourcing jobs to another country to try to improve cost is poor business planning on doo and Polaris. It is a downward spiral IMO. Austrian manufactured parts assembled in Canada is a winning combination for ski-doo. Stupid to change it to save some money.

Try Austria.

Lol, so your switching to Cat for the sole reason they are american made?

Correct me if I'm wrong... but all this Hoo-Ha over unions... they only account for about 11 - 12% of our total workforce in the USA.... That leaves about 90% of the USA workforce.... NON UNION... The trend continues downward.

Certainly not the reason our economy is having trouble... but certainly a "smoke and mirrors" reason that some are giving...

Back to the topic...

Has ANY of the sled motor production of BRP or PI moved to Mexico??? I don't think so but prove me wrong.

Jan. 27, 2012 Union membership in the United States slipped last year to a record-low percentage of the workforce. (click here)

Data released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that a slight rise in private-sector union membership was offset by a loss of unionized government jobs.

The bureau said labor unions represented
7.6 percent of private-sector employees in 2011. The percentage who were actually union members was 6.9 percent, which was statistically unchanged from 2010.

Meanwhile, 40.7 percent of public-sector employees were represented by unions. The percentage of government workers actually in unions was 37 percent.

All told,
the U.S. union membership rate was 11.8 percent of the total workforce in 2011, down from 11.9 percent a year earlier.

The last time I looked

The last time I looked at a Cat engine, I could swear that it had Suzuki on it???

Suzuki builds a fine product mind you.

It seems that "out sourcing" is the easiest way for large companies to maximize their profits while keeping the purchase prices competitive. Bites, ..but that seems to be the way these days.

When you say "American made"...Mehico is also in America. Isn't everything in the Western Hemisphere considered "America"

I like this

I like this theme,

..remember when snowmobile dealers were Family run business's. The dealership was often referred to by the family name. Those were good days, with good Dealers, hand shakes meant something, a person's word was good enough. Now it is glitzy showrooms, ..more about the financing, extended warranties, and insurance than the product??

Whatever happened to those family run Dealerships???? .... They were phased out by the same CEO's that are squeezing the last nickle of profit out of manufacturing a unit by outsourcing. No Social conscience.

Rant over..

I agree, it also has to do with Cat, Polaris, Skidoo, and Yamaha giving the small dealerships unreasonable quotas. How the hell is a small dealer in a town like Chetwynd (3000 people) supposed to sell 50+ quads and 50+ sleds a season. They are driving the small business out of business.
