MAC or PC for video editing

Mac without a doubt Final Cut Pro is the way to go depending how serious about it you are. Wouldn't go any other way when it came to video editing but to eaches own!

I use the mac but I am not real serious about it. I find Imovie does a lot. Comes standard on macs. Macs come with itunes, iphoto, imovie, idvd, iweb, safari and mail to just name a few.

Any imovie experts out there have any tips for selection and dragging clips to the movie view and editing pane?

Macs have a nice niche is media editing. However if you are on a budget you can also make a pc work.

Define "editing." 5 minute GoPro helmet cam vids? Or 30 minute HD epics?

Most modern PC's and Macs are equally matched. Except PC hardware is half the price for twice the hardware. When it comes to rendering long vids and HD, it's all about hardware folks.

Personally, I'm cheap and would much rather spend my hard earned cash on my sled than on an editing box. My $1500 i7 Octacore 16GB PC will render anything you throw at it before you can get another beer from the fridge. Take that extra $2000+ you'd spend on a somewhat comparable Mac, spend it on a sled, and go ride.

Let me put like this, you wouldn't buy a sled with less HP for more money, just cause it comes in shiny silver right?

While it is true that you can buy more hardware that is PC compatible for the same money, you can run into compatability issues, and PC's are gennerally less stable. Yes, apple products are more money, but to get a PC that has been compatability tested (IE pre-built by a major name brand such as dell or HP) and is stable, will not be that much less expensive for comparable computing power, and given the platforms that the two run on, you can actually get more computing done with a smaller processor on a mac than a PC. PC's have their market share for sure in business applications, there is way better support for them in that aspect. But for media applications, video and or photo editing, IMHO you cant beat a mac.

On a side note, if space is something of a concern, it is far far simpler to buy a mac than try to cram all of the hardware you will need into a mini or micro tower and then worry about cooling issues. JMHO.

by the way, i own both. Have a mac and have had numerous PC's from big name brand towers to a few custom built towers. I have never had a computer that is as stable as my mac. In the year ive owned it, it has had less stability issues tha any of my PC's had in a month.

X2!

Just he security patches alone on a PC is enough to drive you nutz. Run this anti-virus program, run that anti-virus program, update this and that security patch. All this slows the machine down as well. Probably why a 5 year old mac runs just as efficient as a new PC.

As a former software and hardware geek (now I'm just a lowly Network Administrator) I find this thread comical. Only one person got the answer right so far and everyone seems to ignore it.

"Once you go Mac you never go back!"

I use the Mac at home and am forced to use the IBM compatibles and Microsoft based crap at work. Nothing ever works smoothly like it should at work, of course it doesn't help having an ex-logger in charge of the IT department at work. The same guy has been pigeon holed by his peers as "dumber than a Hemlock stump". I use the PC and Microsoft at work because I have no choice, at home my choice is Mac, IPhone, iPod, etc. because their stuff is more intuitive which equals more things done in a given amount of time, without all the roadblocks and glitches that are synonymous with PC's and Microsoft based applications. When you sit down to do something, you want to do it and do it well! Not get so frustrated you say F_ck it! It is good enough and I'm tired of fighting with this piece of Sh_t!

Go with a Mac and find your inner piece and let your inner artist come out rather than your aggression's. You can thank me later!
