M8 wont start when hot... what gives?

2008 M8 will not start after its been up to running temp. Once cool, will start first pull. Any ideas?

That seems to be the most common cause of not starting or running well when hot.

I know I have to give mine a little throtle quite often when its warm to get it to fire (wouldn't think you should have to with efi but it helps)

if u have a fuel box ...i know sometimes on my m8, i have to add fuel to the bottom setting for it to start then once it starts i take fuel away...only happens every now and then.

No fuel box. Sled runs great when warm, just will not start once warm. It will not start once warm no matter what i do with the throttle.

Mine does it too, I have no idea why but, a little throttle does seem to help.

Hot Start

I have never had a sled that did this, but I know people who have, and they have wired in a switch inline do just this. I think it is a fairly common problem. If this doesn't solve your problem then I would leand towards a stator. Here is a direct quote from BoonDockers trouble shooting page in thier control box intstructions.


A problem has been known to occur on some sleds involving the engine temperature sensor when
the engine is hot and especially after it has been sitting for a while (gets heat soaked) that will cause
the engine not to start. Unplug the temp sensor (yellow connector located down by where the rope
goes into the recoil) – this will cause the engine to add extra fuel during startup. Pull the engine
over once or twice – it usually pops. Then plug the sensor back in and the engine should operate
normally.

Does this apply if I do not have a control box?

I've heard a bad reed petal will cause this issue. Not sure though I am not a mechanic.

My 09 hcr does the same thing every once in awhile.

My 08 did the same thing right from factory. Found the wire connection off of the water temp sensor near the bootom of the engine (exhaust side). The harness came unplugged from the sensor itself. Plugged it back in, never had an issue after that. Check the wiring/connection to your water temp. sensor. Good luck!
