M8 SLP pipe kit questions?

91 octane fuel isnt always available where I ride. What part of the kit needs to be stock in order to run lower octane? Can, Y-pipe or pipe itself? I really dont want to buy a controller. Could I run stock muffler with Slp pipe and Y-pipe? Anyone ever done any tuning into this?

email/call slp

they should know.

i have the full kit and the bdx intake, i ride around 3000-8000

no controller/ no problems as of yet, i have heard the controller will dial it in quite a bit better though.

good luck

I'd either buy a box or run it stock. A box really isn't a complicated thing to run. For the most part just get it set once and leave it alone.

Same problem. I am running a 09 M8, SLP pipe kit and the area I am in runs 90 octane. SLP requires 91, how do I get that one octane, with boost or should I mix avgas. Any recommendations and what's the ratios if I used avgas mixed with the 90 octane?

Gas always has a higher rating than posted. 90 rated will be 91-92 actual. Government regulated and they don't want to get fined. Just run it.

What he said, or if you need the comfort blanket buy some av gas or race gas and cut your 90 oct 10 -1. you will be looking at 92 or so when all said and done on a 12-13 gal tank.

One thing to consider with octane is that in some little BFE areas the fuel sits for a while before being sold. Especially the more expensive high octane stuff.

Gas begins to lose it's octane rating fast after a week or two in storage. I know that by law the gas has to be AT least the advertised rating, but that's probably what it's rated when they fill their storage tanks.
Not necessarily what it is by the time you put it in your tank.

FWIW we only have 90 here too and SLP told me that I could squeak by safely with 90 on their pipe kit. The main reason being that it's an 09 with a knock sensor.
If you have a knock sensor then you should be fine on 90.

BTW a fuel controller will not help with an octane requirement issue. Only rich/lean mixture.

And in answer to your main question, it's the pipe that's creating the octane requirement there for you.
If you wanted to swap out one thing so you could run lower octane it would be the pipe.

first I've heard the slp kit with an intake and no controller.

new install or have you been running it for a while?

SLP pipe kit

Could I run my stock pipe with my SLP y-pipe and can? Is SLP one of the cans I would lose power with?

You wont really lose power with the slp can, it is one of the best out there in that aspect, but im not sure if the stock pipe will mount on the slp y pipe? I remember someone saying that it is tipped up or down too much or something along those lines. It would be nice if it would work with the stock pipe so you could just throw on the slp pipe when you go out west......
