M8 Power Commander III Issues

Help

I went out for the first ride today with the SLP set up on my 09 M8 using the Power Commander. Several times at idle it would stall out and when started it would run sluggish and a soon as you give it throttle it would die. The first time it happened I decided to unhook the Power Commander. Sled started right up and ran like it should. Shut it down and hooked the power commander back up and sled ran fine. later the same thing happened and I done the same thing. On a couple occasions it would start up after it died and run ok again without having to unhook the Power Commander. Also a couple times when I would slow down and attempt to go again the sled would almost die

Anyone have any thoughts as to why this is happening?

I haven't had a chance to try mine yet but......

Maybe it has something to do with running a RKT head, RKT porting with a SLP pipe with SLP fuel mapping for SLP's porting and head work?

Once you start mixing and matching engine mods from different manufacturers it's tough to know what your fuel mapping should be.

Do you have the fuel map for the SLP perfromance edition package?

Frostbite
Thanks for the input but this sled has the complete SLP performance package direct from SLP , No RKT mods on it.

OOPS.............. now I see it's you OTHER sleds that have the RKT setup.

I sure hope mine works, so specifically in what areas are you seeing issues? Is it only at idle?

Is the sled running well in the mid range and top end?

What do you think of the power of the package?

Frost Bite

mid and top end is great. its only at idle. a couple times today when slowing down to an idle and then while trying to take off it would stall and just about throw me over the bars.

again today I would unhook it and hook the ECU up directly the sled would start no problems. shut it off and hook up the power commander and it would run fine. Then again later it would stall at idle. do the by pass thing again and the sled would run fine.

I guess I will contact SLP tomorrow

Interesting, sorry you're having issues. Please post what SLP says to try.

I suspect others may have the same issues.

So, how does the power in the midrange and top end compare to a stock (09 and earlier) M8?

talked to SLP and they had me hook my lap top up to the power cammandor. Looks like it had some how lost the program SLP installed before shipping it. They sent me the program to down load. installed it in the power comamander and so far it is idling fine. Hope that was the problem

Thanks to Dustin at SLP for the help

That's great news!

So, I suppose I should verify mine has the program loaded as well.

How do you do that?

down load the program off the CD that comes with it on to your computer. Then hook up the power commander to your computer. If its not on the sled and the sled is running you can hook up a 9v battery to it.

once its hooked up to the computer and the power commander is powered up you should see at the bottom of the page a place for notes. it should show you in the notes (M8 with the SLP part number). Also there should be different numbers in the squares that run with rpm and throttle position. Most are zeros until the higher rpm range

good luck

Ok, I'll bring the Power Commander in the house and use the 9 volt battery since our laptop doesn't seem to have a windows application that will accept the Power Commander CD. It seems to work just fine on the desk top though.

Thanks

I finally had to remove my Power Commander and bring it in the house and hook it up to the desk top. I powered up the Power Commander with a 9 volt battery, plugged in the cable to the USB port after I loaded the software from the Power Commander disc and the RPM range chart came up.

I looked in saved files, open files, notes, Power commander files, etc and there is absolutely nothing that I can find loaded on mine either. I will be calling SLP in the morning.

I'm sure they can e mail me the file to load.

I like SLP or I'd have a lot more to say....................

talk to dustin at slp. he will take care of you

mine worked great after the reinstalled the program. To bad I sucked a screw into the PTO side piston. sure tore things up. Not sure where the screw came from yet

Ouch!! My power commander 3 with the slp performance package has been running flawless and very strong.

mine to for about a half hr after i reloaded the program. hack of a difference. I am sure my problem has nothing to do with SLP

I was able to load the fuel map you sent me, in fact I loaded it three times just to be sure I got it. Thank you.

It's frustrating not being able to see what's actually on the Power Commander itself. I can't reallt tell what's on the PC and what's on the computer.

I want to be able to look at the power commander independently like a thumb drive, but I haven't figured out how to do that just yet without using the software that had to be loaded on the computer.
