What's the pros and cons between the two? I'd like to upgrade from my king cat to one of these. I'm sure the newer the better, but is there any years to stay away from? Most likely a 153. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

I have been doing a ton of research on this (as I'm sure you know!) And my conclusion was: for the riding we do and our size the 800 is a better fit. I can't hardly find a bad word on the 09 800's! If you can I would try to find a 09. Again I researched it pretty hard and there are so many improvements on the 09 I would spend the extra coin. Just my opinion (but as you know I'm always right!) LOL!

I rode an '08 M8/153" last year for 3 days and was impressed by the flat out speed on the trails. Also, it climbs like a mother. I have nothing bad to say about it; but hey I'm an A/Cat guy!

Take some time and look at how many people have 1000's (me included) that blow belts. This is a big problem with the 1000's. If I were you I would get the 800 for that reason alone. It seems like some 1000's do ok and some are horrible for belt life. Besides I bet a good running 800 will stay darn close to a 1000. They are considerably less money too!

I ride a M1000 153" and love it. I rode a M8 before purchasing and yes, it is a nice sled but the M1000 is just more sled and that is what I wanted. Goes anywhere I need to and more and will outrun a M8 anyday.

1400 miles+ same belt. I don't know why some people are having issues with belt life........i've read the same threads..............not my experience at all.

M1000 baby!!:D

another opinion

I have had a 2007 and a 2008 M1000, this year I opted to buy a M8 162 Sno Pro, the M8 is most impressive sled outta the box i have EVER ridden, it has a SLP can, mountain mod seat and stock clutching. a buddy of mine opted for the 2009 M1000, put a RKT head, boondocker box and Y pipe on it, I lick him up and spit him out 2 lengths in a drag race. I told him to remove that Boondocker box and throw it away! in all my years of sledding I have NEVER seen a Boondocker box on a sled that works good.
Another buddy owns a 2008 M1000 153 sno pro stock with a can and in the same race my skis are right on his rear bumper.
The M8 absolutely rocks...I am so impressed with the M8, I would never buy another M1000, why..its 20-30lbs heavier.
also those M1000 boys were at half a tank on the gas gauge and mine just lifted off of full
No contest M8 all the way.

i had an 07 stock 1000 last year and i really liked it at the time and it is fairly cheap and easy to get close to 200 hp out of them but i have an 09 m8 this year with a turbo and it is way more fun to ride not only power wise but it is almost 70lbs lighter than the 07 m 1000, much easier to throw arround , also from what i have seen stock to stock m8 vs m1000 they both seem very close.

The 09's are far better sleds either way, but your comparing in a drag race these sleds are M-series for Mountain series. The 09 m1000 will beat your m8. With a slp pipe set the m1000 is 15lbs heavier but has another 50hp, if you think you can beat that come give it a shot. Stock 09 m1000 feels to me like it will beat the modded 07 08 m1000s. The m8 do kick A$$, what do you want more power or a little lighter. Stock in 09 the m8 is 31lbs lighter than the m1000, but half of it is in the can. Never had belt issues. I have a 09 m1000 and love it the m8 doesn't feel any lighter to me just underpowered. You can put the slp on a m8 and prob beat or run with a stock m1000's as well, and it would be cheaper.
