Well, I have been a long time Ski-Doo guy and its time to make a switch from my 05 REV 800 151.

Here is my debate: I like the the M chassis alot. Have ridden a few. But Weighting in at 240lbs and 6'2 Im leaning towards the 2010 M1000. I dont ride with any Cat guys so I cant go there for insight and sugestions.

That being said.. Any insight on which sled would be best for a heavy, exsperienced rider would be great.

Thanks

You'd probably like either. Had a 08 M10 and really liked the power. Have a 10 M8 and like how light it feels and still has good power. The 1000 in the newer chassis would probably rock too. Tough choice but don't think you can go wrong either way. See, not much help...:)

lo.. thanks. Look at all the views and 1 reply..

Im leaning towards the 10 M1000 162. Going to rent on this weekend from our local dealer and see how it goes..

Do the M1K

The M8 and M1k chassis are the same. The 1000 weighs more due to the coffee can sized pistons. Way more torque on the 1000, the potential mods are endless. I'm 6'2" tall, weigh in at 215 lbs in my skivvies, and absolutely love my M1K - there is no replacement for displacement. Sure, you can turbo the 8, but you can turbo the one liter, too.

Thats my theory too

I have rode my new 09 M1000 162 SP twice , an i love it . The 09 is so much better . My 09 M1 feels lighter than my 07 M8 , and it is way more nimble .

You might look at an 09 hold over if you can still find one . The new seat is all that changed from 09 to 10 on the M1 . When i bought mine none of the dealers i called had any 2010 M1's . They only had new M8's , so i found a hold over 09 and pulled the trigger.

I was worried about not being able to find 2010 hold over M1's.

I would not waste your time with an 8 , get the M1000 .:beer;

I decided on the 2009 M8 primarily because it was ~$2000 cheaper than the M10.

With that said, I'm easily pushing 300-lbs by the time I'm geared up and riding ... So far the M8 has done pretty well for me. There have been times I have wished it had more power, but I am pretty sure that in those same situations I'd be saying the same thing about the M10 ...

Even with that said, I went from a 900 RMK that was set up pretty well and on par with the weight of an M10 to the M8 ... and I really don't miss riding the heavy sled at all. It doesn't seem like 30 pounds is that much, but you do tend to notice it.

With that said however, if I would have ben able to afford it, I probably still would have bought the M10 instead of the M8 .... that doesn't mean the M8 is a slouch by any means .... seems like the only times I get stuck with the M8 are when I'm tired as hell from beating on it all day and I'm no longer paying attention ...

I think the bottom line is, you just have to take a real honest look at how you ride ... if you tend to do a lot more boondocking, the M8 might be where to look .... if you really like climbing hills, the M10 is the hot ticket ... or if you're like me, it's just gonna boil down to what your budget will allow you to buy.

get the 1000 you wont regret having all the power and the weight is hardly noticiable! the m8 is going to be tapped for the most part unless you go with a turbo! You can put a pipe on the 8 and get maybe 170 hp, it already has porting and a h/c head! A 1000 with a slp exhaust is 190hp and 16lbs lighter! You can port the 1000 and clip the head with good exhaust and make 215hp or put a 1200 big bore on and have 225hp. If your going to go with the turbo down the road its the same thing a PG 1000 will run right with a RG 800! The only reason i would go with the 800 is if i was going to leave it stock and wanted a reliable pull and go wippy little sled in the trees. thats just my 0.02 cents

why would you spend 2 grand more for a sled that will be worth less than the M8 in a year. if you need a 1000 i'd buy a hold over...
