M8 Good and Bad

M8

I would install a 2 inch riser, and a SLP single pipe, the 08 M8 ran very well, I would also put some more air in your rear shock judging by the photos. Good luck your going to love it.

This is my first year on m-series, after coming from poo. There ain't no turning back. Absolutely love it. I'm now doing things on a sled that I never even dreamed possible on my Poo. Huge learning curve though, but I'm finally getting the hang of it.

I'm really glad you love the Cat. I rode one the other day just like yours only a 162 and Speedwerx pipe. I, personally, wouldn't have gave that guy a dime for that thing, compared to my twin piper poo. This guy(who was a dealer) had to wait for me to come back down from my high mark to help him get unstuck. When I rode it, it seemed like it got you where it needed to, it was just "bla" power. I had an 07 M8 with the Speedwerx single setup on it and it was a dream to ride, but now power. I could be narrow minded here, but I just can't see why anyone would pefer Cats boring powerband over the snappy Poo. As far as powder handling, they are very much alike. I, however could compete with my friends better on the 08 700 RMK the following year. YES, I will admit freely that last year I had piston problems like everyone else, but the update seems to be working for me. I also have to admit that if my Polaris dealer wasn't so awesome(and if we had a Cat dealer within a days drive) I would be riding a 10 M8, pending a very thorough testing session. Again, congrats on the new sled. There is not a better feeling that loading up a sled off of the showroom floor into your trailer. When you get ready to start removing parts, I would strongly suggest a set of Powder Pros. If you love it now, try a set. Sorry if I offended any of you cat boys, I'm just trying to figure out the answer

you had an 07 m8 u said with a pipe set up,did u run a fuel controller?reason asking is i have an 07 m8 with a D&D y pipe pipe and can and am curious if put it on if ill need a controller,i also have the bdx air intake mod,i know from factory the efis r fat on fuel so in theory the stock map should handle the set up or am i wrong?

I made the transition to Cat before last season and I don't have any plans to change. I rode an M7 last year and LOVED it! It was a little under powered, but I've only ridden two sleds that weren't under powered...TDragon and TNytro. So until you add the T to your M8, it will always be under powered. :face-icon-small-hap I picked up an '08 M8 that is just like your and it's nice to have the added torque of the 800, but again under powered. The reliability and handling makes up for the lack of power! You will enjoy the new ride!

Yes I will agree that Poo does have more power. I rode with a guy on an 07 M8 with the SLP setup, and a guy on 2010 M8 with HPS can, and my 900 RMK with Pipe, can, and reeds, smoked BOTH of them. However, my 900 is in peices right now. As well as my dads 800 RMK for the second time. I don't mind the lack of power. I would rather have something not as powerful and stay together for a long time. Plus riding a less powerful sled will make me a better rider.

I am fed up with Polaris and their peices of s**t sleds. I rode my dads M7 and I really like it. So I am thinking of getting an M8. I found a 2007 with a 153 inch track, a can, and just over 1000 miles for $4500. Is this a good deal? How reliable is this sled? I don't know much about Cats, but I know I am really sick of having to pour money into my poo when something else is just going to break. I just want a reliable sled. What are your inputs on the 2007 M8. Thanks in advance.

So far there are few things I don't like about my M8 \....I would gladly trade the worthless altimeter for a coolent temp readout on the MFD any day of the week. I also fail to see how Arctic Cat hasn't addressed the brainless "nubs" the hood straps hook to. That was a $50 fix from Rprecision on here though.

That pretty much sums it up ...

I do think the IQ (specifically the RAW version) chassis is the best handling, best balanced chasis on the market, but the M chassis is absolutley no slouch ... it does take a little getting used to the M's "all or nothing" feel ... just gotta go "all out" leaning it over, then learn to quickly let it back off ... once you get it on it's side, it's pretty easy to control however. Then again, I've also put Simmons Gen II's on my front, which are assuredly harder to deal with in anything less than 4' of fresh pow than the PP's or stock skis are .... so really, the M's aren't too tough to throw around ;)

The Cat 800 isn't as "rippy" as the Polaris 800 motor is, but I've drag raced several D8's on my M8 and if I wasn't 50-60 pounds heavier than the other rider I'm sure the sleds would have been dead even for the most part. I was typically getting a sled length pulled on me after about 1/8th of a mile.

Overall I've been very happy with my M8 in the several months I've owned it now. I can definatley see myself buying another Cat sled in the future.

If you're still riding a polaris with twin pipes.......you probably don't have a dime left.

Sorry if I offended any of you Polaris boys.

Yes i am broke, but we will blame that on the wonderful constrtuction economy. And Yes 30% race gas is expensive but the power is pretty amazing
