M8 Fuel mileage... wtf? Also: Melting oil cap?

From the backyard, 40 km and 3 hours later, burned a full tank of gas.

Can't figure out why? I've attached some pics, can anyone help me understand? My buddies 900 cat also burned it's full tank so it must be a cat thing, right?

Smartassing aside:

Is cat warrantying the melting oil cap/jug on the 2009 sleds? If not, how much does the oil jug/heat shield from a 2010 cost? After today, mine is fracked. (First time I've spent the whole ride breaking trail in deep snow the whole way. Was pretty warm too, near the 0 celcius mark) I do think I'm going to have seriously think about some venting now.

Nice pics man. My 09 hcr is thirsty also,, but its worth it. I melted my first oil tank, and cat gave me a new one. I added tons of vents, and its all good now. I have a zip tie holding the heat shield on, and it hasn't even melted yet.

if your gonna ride the deep venting and heat protection is a must...

I dont get it guys I can get 120 miles a tank easy on my 2010, if it was trail 150 160 maybe, its never got less than 10 mpg and I check everytime I go out , I always fill up and always reset the trip odo. even if Im breaking trail in pow it gets good
