m8 belt deflection

i am new to the m chassis and was wondering which shim you remove or add to change the belt deflection

is it the black plastic ring or the metal ring next to the oring and would it hurt to remove one of the washers(mine has 2 solid and one lock washer) on the bolt.

thanks in advance

To change deflection, you remove the oring, and add or remove shims. I believe you add to losen the belt, remove to tighten, and reinstall the oring after. To remove the belt, you flip the aluminum piece around, and tighten the bolt and it spreads the sheaves. as far as the two flat washers and one lock, you can remove one im sure, just a flat and lock. You may find that when you go to remove the belt, you'll need to remove the washers to get the threads started into the bolt a bit farther.
Best thing to do is pick up a BDX deflection adjuster, it allows you to make nice fine adjustments rather then the .030 or .060 shims.
Good luck

IT is the other way around. You add shims to the adjuster moving the stop position of the helix out. The shims base down on the hardened shaft inside the clutch. Taking them off lets the bolt tighten more moving the helix in opening the clutch just as if your changing the belt.

So add shims to tighten the belt

Take shims off to loosen the belt.

Now this is a good thing to do when setting deflection. Open it up so the belt drops in. The belt will hold the clutch open. Then tighten down the deflection adjuster with out pressure from the end of the helix. You can make sure the shims are even and tightened down right. Then just spin the secondary by hand to get the belt to run up again.

For best performance run the belt as tight as you can so the track wants to creep at idle. This video shows it was kinda tight but this was a new belt.
