M8 2009 warm start issue

Just got back from a good 4 days of riding with my snow hawk powered by a m8 2009 engine .

Its been 2 years i ride it with no issue .

This weekend ,when the engine was getting hot ,it woud not start .would only start after sitting a couple minute of cool down.

Finnaly i did some testing and realized that there was no spark when this was happening .

Unplug the wire from the handlebars still no spark ....only the cool down make the spark come back ....

When riding in the trail in some cold wheater ,i had no issue but in deep snow cold wheater it is doing it .

Any idea ?

I still haven't changed the stator on my M8 yet. I see new stators are $800 from a Cat dealer ($714 at County Cat) but there is one on Ebay for $199 with free shipping. Is there any reason to pay the extra for the Cat part? Here's a link.

Based on the number of used stators for Cat 800 motors listed on Ebay. I am lead to believe that stator related problems are fairly common on these engines?

I am also guessing I will need a good three arm puller? I only have a two arm puller now.

Wow, that's a heck of a puller! I can't believe it costs almost more than the stator! Having never pulled a flywheel before, I had no idea. Thanks for the tip.

How does the linked stator look for quality?

800 bucks I would be interested to know if the cat part is worth it seems awful expensive for a stator! I think my new skidoo stator was less than half that why are the cat stator so much money.

I think I will probably just order the $199 one on Ebay.

However, I may give Michelle a call just to check the price.

I had no idea you could get a stator rebuilt ( I guess I have never had one go bad) until I read a PM in my inbox today. I thank you and the PM writer for pointing out that option. I still need to pull the stator. I was looking at some other types of pullers to see if I could find a fairly affordable option.

I currently have one similar to this. This won't work, right?

Here is an inexpensive option:

This one sounds like it will pull just about anything:

Here's another SLP puller but, it's more of a universal puller:

Or.....I can stick with the one linked above by Blk88GT

Thoughts? Is it really that hard to pull a flywheel? The answer is probably sometimes or it depends.

I will get mine rewound as well.

Once I figure out if my existing puller will work to pull the fly wheel.
