m8 08 tpg error ecu 21???

detonated already and blew it up once already this year, im using premium and lucas octane booster!!! darn this is it i guess i need to mix some av gas to be safe

Was your ecu recalled back in december '07? There were a lot replaced by Arctic Cat. Mine started out occasionally flashing ecu 21, but eventually it started coming on as soon as I would start the sled. If the person at Arctic Cat knew what they were talking about, a part was left out of some of the early ECU's that came from one manufacturer which resulted in this problem. Maybe the det sensor didn't work at all? Who knows for sure? I can't find the list of vins that were affected, but I saw it somewhere last week on the net. Have your dealer key your VIN into the AC database & see if there is a recall for your VIN.

My VIN fell in this range & was replaced under the recall.

Taken from a posty by SaberKitty 12-20-07:

There's a fix (new replacement ECU) in the works for the code 21 issue on 800 engines covering VINs 4UF08SNW98T111005 through 4UF08SNW98T116379.

thx, i need to look at my vin#

Ill tell ya what I have seen. On M8 pump gas turbos, you need to run some race gas above 6lbs of boost. The kicker is that most pump gas setups turned all the way down are about 7lbs. I have a 2010 M8 BDPG on my bench right now that smoked the PTO side. The guy bought it under the guise that it was pull the rope and go, no tinkering needed. His EGT recall was at 1408 degrees! He needs to set his control box up right, and run 50/50 race gas above 7lbs. Now, if you are spending most of your time above 9000 feet, and you probably aren't unless your address has a CO in it.......you need some race gas unless you are sticking below 7lbs.

Another thing I have seen is running a bigger turbo on the 800 will allow you to run higher boost on pump gas....9 lbs for instance.

If you are 9000 feet and below 4-6lbs is pump gas territory with a standard 2860 setup.

If it's the recalled ECU you can run 116 on 7 lbs and you will still get the code 21. Also on mine when I detonate I get the code 23 not code 21. The ECU recall from Cat has expired but Cat still has some replacement ECU's in stock and is still swapping them out. If a dealer tells you its expired and they can't do it, call another dealer.

true, got a 2871 and plan to run 8-0lbs with a splash of 112 for chits and tickles:face-icon-small-blu

where i have been riding lately, the parking lot is 10,200......oh yes, nose bleed!!!

New ECU fixed it for me. No more ECU 21 codes. Ran more boost than last trip on same fuel (100% AV gas) and no det sensor codes at all.
