M7 secondary on M1000!

Me and my buddy were doing a little brainstorming after he went through well over a grand of arctic cat belts last year. Hes running an m1000 with jaws twins, rktek secondary, and intake mod. We took the secondary off an m7 and stuck it on the m1000.Then we took a yamaha belt which always seemed to be pretty tough belts and it seems like it fits just perfect.Hes had it to the dealer a few times but still eats belts like crazy.hes about ready to call it quits but wants to try the yamaha belt. Anyone try this or have any comments about trying this?

He was burning belts both before and after putting the M7 secondary on?

I'm with Glen. Most of us with M7's are looking for the larger 10.4" secondary found on the newer M series sleds cause the 10.0" doesn't give the best performance.

If you are able to provide more info on exact clutching setup, elevation where you are riding, and if any venting is done on this sled somebody here can probably help out.

No hes never ridden it with the smaller secondary we just test fitted it. And as to the smaller clutch would that almost be like gearing down? Like i said hes had it at the dealer a few times and its supposobly all aligned. And yes it is vented. Dont know if its the horsepower difference or what i used two belts all last season on a pretty much stock 08 1000, never blew just swapped back and forth between the 046 and 060. He blew at least 10-12 belts

If he's had it to the dealer several times it is probably aligned properly. He's got to have something going on like broken motor mounts or wrong springs. If it were mine i'd buy a clutch alignment tool, and align it myself. Then try taking the hood off and check to see if the motor is moving around excessively with a load against it. Maybe have a buddy ride next to me and watch it. If that all looks good I would put the secondary back to stock to test that mod. Bottom line is something is not right. Vented these sleds are not belt eaters. JMO.

A smaller secondary can only hurt during takeoff,

It does nothing different when it is loaded. I have tried the 10.4 on my M, while it did take off easier, not a nickel worth of difference anywhere else. JOhn:D

venting to correct an issue is just a bandaid..your clutches need fixed first.

check all engine mounts first, might be a mount loose or something allowing your engine to torque itself out of alingment.

You must have a deflection or alignment issue. The M7 clutch works fine on the 1000, we have a couple guys running it with no problems. The 036 belt works on this setup and 55/65 gearing works well.
