M7 or M8 drivers on Mountain Cat? Anyone tried this?

I am wondering if it is possible to run M series drivers on a Mountaincat 800.. Maybe I am wrong, but from what I have read, the drive shafts are both a 1 1/16" diameter. If this would work, this seems to be a cheaper alternative to getting 3.0 pitch anti ratchets on the old mountaincat sled.. Is this possible?? Has anyone done it?? I have tried researching and couldnt find the answer to this.. Anyone know??:face-icon-small-ton

Those drivers may work, but they also put 3.0" pitch anti-ratchet drivers on all the King Cats too, so you can just find a complete driveshaft out of one of them.

I thought the mountain cats all had 1" shafts. The larger shaft off a KK will be a direct replacement other than like Idacat said, you would need to change tracks to 3 pitch.

The drive sprockets from an M sled will not fit. As far as I know nobody makes a driveshaft with a large enough diameter. Idcatman3 is right though, the 05 King Cats used the same style driver but sized to fit the 1 1/4" drive shaft. Most of the Cat driveshafts were 1 1/16" until the 1M 900 and King Cats, most of which have the 1 1/4.

Since the king cat has the larger shaft, will the shaft and drivers work in the mountain cat chassis?? Is the shaft the same length? Will the drivers clear the tunnel?

The reason I asked this is because when looking into the Wahl drivers through SLP, the 3.0 pitch drivers are listed fit all all except for the king cat which has the larger diameter so to me the drivers would fit the mountain cat and the M series sled.. If this was the case, why wouldnt this work?

just get a used KC shaft with the 1 1/4" anti-ratchets already installed. It will bolt right in , as long as your 1M is 03 or newer. 03 was the first year the 1M had factory drop and roll. I have an 03 1M , and this is my plan.....and a 162" 3" pitch track of course.

The mountain Cat I am looking into this for is an 01..

It will still work just fine. You'll have a little less track clearance at the front of the tunnel than the 1Ms do, but you'll be fine. The shafts will interchange.

The 05 Sno Pro 440 also uses the same drive sprockets as the 05- King Cat. (Same part number.) You may be able to find a set of those cheap and press the sprockets.
Although, and maybe my sled is odd, it has never ratcheted the drivers. (04 King Cat, normal style drivers.) I run my track LOOSE, like 1.5-2" of hang with no pressure. Ran that way with the stock suspension and with an 08 Float, never a skip, with a 200 horse Cutler spinning it.

I put an 09 M series rear suspension, and 153 PC track under mine ( 03 1M ) with the M series extro's (avid products) and I love it. Went with the 8 T and so far the clearance seems to be fine. Love the track too!, still trying to get the suspension dialed in just right.:cheer2:

Definitely good to hear and something to think about..

I will try to get some pics posted in the next week or so. I had to swap out the rear mount brackets with the M series ones, and just run them reverse of what they normally are to get the drop I needed....you could probably do the same with some custom drop brackets.
