m1200 very hard to start

Have a 07 m1200 dd set up and the thing is so hard to start. Could sit in a heated shop all week or outside in 0 degrees all week. No matter it will take 20 minuets of pulling to get it to fire. Even after you ride and stop for a break it still takes a good 5 or 6 pulls to start. Ran maximal 116 at 32:1. Doesn't seem to be a fuel issue as much as a just hard to pull over. Fuel pressure goes up to about 38 after the first pull and once running sits a tick over 40. Have a tm1000 that you can basically pull with one finger no matter how long it sits. Are all of them like this or is something else wrong. Pretty frustrating when your arms are all wore out trying to start it before you even start riding for the day. And we can get the "go to the gym" joke out of the way. Thanks.

Back to basics; spark, fuel, or compression is what you need to figure out. Could be a weak spark or weak fuel pressure assuming you have more than 100 lbs of compression.

race gas is a bitCTh to start. thats what makes it soo good for high comp motors. lower your octane will help it start better unless you need the higher stuff.

Put all new plugs in and that didn't make a difference. If fuel pressure and compression come back good guess ill have to start checking coils. I figured race fuel would be a pain to start but I have the same mixture in my turbo 1000 and that things starts awesome. Are the 1200 pistons really that big that it seems like the motor went tight when i'm trying to pull it over? Once it runs it's all good. But to get it to that point just sucks. Hopefully getting a compression tester tomorrow and will see what it is at. Will also try and get a fuel pressure tester and rule out on my gauge being faulty.

My dd 1200 wasn't hard to start other than it was hard as hell to pull over. You've got your base gaskets doubled up right? I overlooked that one on initial install, super torquey with that extra low port timing and extra compression though.

Whats your compression? My old 1000 with 13.6 head was a bitch to start if left out below zero for a night or two. Once fired no worries but cold.... ugly.

I believe it is a 12.5:1 Any idea what stock would be? I have a compression tester on order and should be here soon but leave for work tomorrow for about a week so will get back with what numbers each cylinder is at when I get back. Thanks.

Couldn't tell you. Bought it like it was. I'm pretty new to modding so excuse me if this is a dumb question, but what does doubling up the base gasket do? And yes, so annoying to pull over that thing. Especially when you go from 500 to 10000 feet elevation!
