M1100 quit charging what should I look for?

Yesterday I found this plastic part under the motor today it quit charging does this part look familar? Is there a common problem to look for on the charging system?

Took it to the dealer they could not find where that piece of plastic came from but the figured out that the voltage regulator quit. I hope this did not damage anything else just thought that I would let you guys know.
