m1000 turbo advice

well im almost done my low budget turbo and could use some advice..allready installed garrett 3071 and did a side dump with a stainless pipe..no can..found out its not easy to weld stainless to mild steel but i think it will hold..welded up an oil tank, catch can and bought a used ovs plenum, charge tube and tial BOV so all thats left is an oil pump, fuel controller and regulator..

need to know more about a reliable oil pump, fuel pressure regulator and fuel controller as well do i need an external fuel pump. i have the extra fuel rail and injectors if i want more but wanting to go easy for now..

also if i start the sled and temporarily supply the turbo with oil should it be running super rich at idle with the wastegate wide open

sled will run pump gas 7lbs boost with internal wastegate but may pin the internal and get an external thx

I dont think you will get to seven lbs on pump, and not a hope with out extra injectors and bigger pump. Unless your 10,000 plus

silber has a sweet little oil pump..

as for a box. get a dobeck style one from whoever.. attitude, ovs, not sure of who all's names are on em.. but they all work the same.

as for fueling, depending on your elevation 6-7# is right around what the stock injectors can feed... might want to look into duals.. or just run it at 5-6 for simplicity.

thx ski

i got the injectors so i might as well hook em up. still not sure about the fueling issue..do you take out the factory pump and replace it with an external or leave it in and add an external with a regulator.....am i taking fuel away from the low end ...etc. just want an easy to manage fuel set up

A larger in tank pump with external regulator is a nice clean setup, but you need to plumb a return line back into the tank.

Dont really now if 7psi is do-able on pump gas, Ive never tried, but I know its a fair bit more then the manufactures are recomened (their at 4-5lbs) I run 9lbs on straight 100ll and I think thats close to tops for 100 octane. This is all at 5-8k ft

Maybe some more experiences guys will chime in.

I would be good with 9 lbs as well..

so i can run a line from my existing fuel line to my secondary fuel rail and then another line from the rail back to the tank....

replace my fuel pump with the proper pump and add a regulator

weld the air fuel bung to the end of my exhaust pipe not to close to the turbo....

install an oil pump...can it be wired into the same circuit as the fuel pump

Dobeck controller and done...oh ya and look for the multiple mistakes i made when building this kit...

with a larger pump you will need to up grade your electical and run the fuel pump off the accesroy outlet. Arctic cat makes a nice DC conversion kit. Then run your oil pump off the original fuel pump power sorce. The ac conversoin kit is fused and has a addional accesory outlet.

Fuel line needs to run from pump to to injectors, some where in there you need to T in the regulator, then from the regulator you need to run the return line back to the tank. Cuttlere sells a nice 1:1 rising regulator (attach a boost line and the fuel pressure will go up one lb for every lb of boost) but its a bit spendy.

thanks gw - that helps alot

i looked at the bd system and it looked pretty easy but im not sure how well it
works. The BD one has a fitting that attaches to the reg and the boost line goes
on it...same principle i guess..

i spent the night trying to figure out how to mount the wastegate so it looks clean but works properly..what a clusterfu....not alot of room back there behind the turbo...the air fuel gauge is working now..lol 13.8 - 14.2 ish at idle...thats with the wg unhooked..no fuel controller and a temp oiler for the turbo...<not running it long...checking all the wiring routing too so i might avoid shorts and rubbing areas etc....

ttt

Take a look at my build scaredycat, in the member build section under perf/modified.
I put a 2876 in my m-series. Everything is tight, I have maybe 1/4inch between wastegate bracket and bulkhead, I can barely squeeze my silicone hose in between the wastegate bracket and the turbo. Everything is tight, just research and make it work.
I did one single external fuel pump and ran it off accessory. I have my a/f running off of stock fuel pump. Many ways to wire your sled, I am on my 3rd time of removing and fixing or making things better. After each ride you will notice little things. Its fun as hell to ride. You are almost there. Check in the classifieds, I bought all my stuff on here used. Good Luck, you can PM if you have more questions, like I said, I just got done with mine, and am currently welding up a different mounting system on my airbox.

Thanks catman.

I`ll definately look for you guys when i get the pump or hit a wall. Do you guys find that the internal wastegate flows enough to keep the temps down..with my exhaust style which is a single pipe side dump...my internal wg opens roughly 30-40 percent max..

For a 1000 the turbo should be a 3071 –3076 with a min of .75 A/R on the exhaust housing. If your housing is smaller than that it will not work, I would use the internal waste gate you do not need the extra plumbing under the hood and for a external waste gate to work better there is a specific way it has to be arranged.

Twisted sells a in tank fuel pump and wiring harness for not a bad price if you are still looking, it will save you time and grief.

The injectors that you have might be a problem with a different fuel controller, some injector will take up to a extra 1ms to open, so if you fuel controller starts the pulse for the extra injectors with @ .2 ms shot some injectors will need a starting point of 1.2 to deliver the same amount of fuel, all you can do is give it a try and see if you can get it tuned.

Find as many pics of turboed 2-smokes as you can and study them

thanks boyko

I knew the turbo had to be a larger t28 turbine side with a .86 or .82 AR as they make turbos with the smaller 25 housing as well. I looked to OVS,BD and twisted for photos and installation instructions so i didnt buy something i didnt need. ...made my wastegate bracket and installed it tonight..they make a dual port pot and mine is a single..putting air to it,it opens at 7-8lbs...noticed a leak at my exhaust where it dumps into the turbo and its pretty black and oily...didnt know about the injectors so ill look at them b4 i buy a controller...i was also think of running a small tranny cooler for the oil as well..not sure how to test my tial BOV other than sealing off both ends and adding air pressure till i hear that cool psssh sound...coolest part is guys comin into the garage now see it and go--is that a turbo...im like yep...they dont need to know it doesnt run yet. Appreciate all the help and feedback im getting...dont want to bug the boys at OVS,linderman, twisted,Boondocker etc...im sure they get enough calls..
