M1000 to Pro

Want to hear from a few guys who have made the switch from the M1000 to a Pro. Tell me about. Miss the torque or anything of the 1000? Just scared I will miss the power. Please don't use the world "flickable" in your response lol

I have never owned an m1000 but ridden a few and about the only thing i will comment on is the ease of riding a pro compared to a 1000. At the end of the day after riding a pro in technical stuff you will be ready to ride again as where a 1000 you will be tuckered out, those things are a tank compared to a pro. Power wise they may not have the torque but they get on top of the snow and go and go and go. I would say you should not have any regrets, you should try and demo one for a day and create you own opinion before dropping the coin.:face-icon-small-win

The pro is so much more....ummmm...flick...maneuverable. I never owned a M1000 but I've ridden one. After I couldn't understand why anyone would want that sled over a M8. I guess you gotta dig the torque thing (like the 900 owners).

I'm coming off an 09 m1000- ported, piped, head, intake, & clutched.

Last year I sold it and bought a Pro... I miss the arm stretching/ ski lifting power.

That being said I wouldn't go back the pro is easier to ride, easier to dig out, WAY better on fuel and belts.

I had a 09 M-1000 w/ y-pipe can bdx intake ect. Replaced it back in 2011 w/ a Pro RMK and I will say I did missed the torque a bit but that faded once I found how much more fun the RMK was to ride. Now I have a 2013 Rmk w/ a PAR head can and clutching and all I can say is its the best sled I have ever owned.

I went from an m8 turbo running 12 pounds boost. Bought a 13 pro 163...I don't miss the power one bit. Love my new pro.

08 M1, modded to a 12 Pro. Only ridden it once and yes way lighter and easy to maneuver. Don't miss the hp yet because the Pro is actually quicker with a new track vs the clapped out folded over track on my M1000. Haven't stretched it out on a big climb yet but I can tell it doesn't have the beans the M1 does whenpointed uphill however it was better/easier to ride everywhere else.

i had an 09 m1000 163 slp piped, cpc secondary, burandt shock upgrade, powder pros, power wise if the 1000 had good traction it pulled hard, motor was great, never could beat my friends 11 pro climbing or boondocking, the 1000 would not climb like the pro because as soon as you hit the soft snow it would trench and loose ground speed, where the pro got up on top and mantained its momentum better,1000 was a belt eater, pro belt life has never been an issue.steering wise pro steering nice and lite m1000 steering effort was the worst out of any sled i've ever rode. gas was ok oil use was double what the pro uses,m1000 great sled on the trail sitting down the pro is probably the worst trail sled i've rode, hope this helps you.

Just had this conversation today with a buddy. We both came off of heavily modded M1000's and it was our biggest concern selling them and buying new. I have to say I am not disappointed one bit. It was a great jump and I'm totally happy. Just wish I had more time to ride it this winter....... GREAT sled though right out of the box.

I went from a 08 RG M 1000 to a pro climb 1100 to silber turbo pro. only thing I would change is wish I had went to the pro from the 1000.

in 2009 i had a sick M1000. 200HP sled, tons of lightweight parts (down to about 460lbs dry). I could ride it pretty technically and get into some real tight spots. But it ate belts like a fat kid eats cake, and munched oil and fuel at similar rate. It climbed pretty well, but did trech a bit. Ski pressure was WAY too heavy too. Good on the trail though :) The thing hauled the mail.

That being, i'd never ride one again. I went from that sled to a 2009 XP which actually climbed better, but was a chitter for technical riding, and now to my 2013 Pro which is by far the best all around sled i've ever ridden!

a little different perspective....my 09 m-1000 is lightend to the point it weighs the same as the 12 poo....190 hp....i saw no point in buying into the poo, i have ridden several of my friends poos, nice sled, but not a performance sled in deep snow, high altitude.....yeah, they all would say their poo would climb almost with a 1000, until they were at the bottom of the steep, long, and deep....then they got their chance to show their stuff, not talk....in these circumstances, they would pull several hill attempts, do their best....then the 1000 would double, at least their best climbs....the rest of the day, the 1000 would easily ride the trees, cornices, and anything else you wanted to throw in the comparison...tired? no, even less so, 'cause i wasn't digging myself out trying to climb hills that the poo couldn't get over...last year i pulled out two poos, out of the seven i ride with....but i do like their sleds, if they could just get that engine a little better or maybe a lot...:yo:

Had a 2009 M1000 piped, clutched, with a few light weight parts. Loved that sled and it kicked butt. Huge difference from the 2007, and 2008 M1000s I had. Snow checked a 2013 Pro 163 and so far I am very impressed. Definitely a lot easier to ride and seems to climb well. Really gets up on the snow. If your a boondocker there is no question go Pro. My Buddy has a 155 pro and its a blast in tight spots. Most flickable sled I've thrown a leg over.

I always found the earlier years of M1000 never had the traction to get much out of the power. It just spun....didn't "bite in." I almost bought one in 07 but after demoing them, that was my complaint....very little transfer to aid in grip. By contrast....Doo's of similar years had too much transfer and you had to do climbs with the skis in the air (I owned one). The pro really has that balance sorted out well IMO. The power is like the rest of the sled....well balanced. The whole package stands out more than the power....whereas I would say an M1000 is the opposite, where the engine is standout and the rest is "ok."

Never thought I would...

Buy a pro. I blasted a rock on my M1000 over Christmas and totaled it. Three days ago I bought a really low mileage '11 Pro! Yesterday was my first ride on it and we were out for 6 hours. I'm ready to go shred again today! I was in spots yesterday that would have required a ton more effort on my 1000, plus the pro definatly didn't trench and get stuck yesterday like my 1000 would have. It doesn't have the power of the 1000, but it doesn't need it because it's so much easier to ride. I think I'm gonna lose the sway bar next weekend and see if I like that. On the trail, it does kinda suck though...

Just my two pennies.

bought a new 09 m1000 had full pipe kit, clutching, track, few other light weight things it did rip but i was beat after a full day of riding, purchased a 11 pro and never ever looked back,i now have a 13 with mds and par head and this sled rocks, light great power to weight ratio and super easy to ride i deff do not regret the change

I ride both of these sleds a lot. I own a low mileage '09 M1000 and I've put a lot of miles on '11, '12 and '13 Pro's. Both sleds have advantages so it really depends on what your style of riding is. The Pro really shines in deep, tight tree riding. The Pro is easier to ride, has a good traditional balanced chassis and you can put anyone on it and their confidence will go up.

The 1000 (if set up properly, most aren't) is a great hill climber and is no slouch in the trees, it just takes more effort than the Pro. It's not fair to the Pro to compare it to the 1000 on a hill ('09 to '11 1000's), especially if the elevation is high. Elevation really doesn't seem to effect the 1000 near as much as any of the 800's out there. If the Pro has a fresh track in deep snow, the advantage really isn't there for the 1000. The next run up the same track is a different story when trying to punch a line over a mountain.

I actually prefer the 1000 when I break trail up a nasty drainage I ride often simply for the power on tap on the 1000. I can take lines on the 1000 that I can't on the Pro simply b/c the Pro can't maintain the track speed or sidehill certain sections unless there is a track already or if the Pro has a turbo.

Now, I am going to sell my M1000 simply b/c it's an '09 and it's still worth some money. I had intended to install a turbo on it but I never got to it. I will buy a new Pro when the M1000 sells. If Cat still made a 1000 in a mountain chassis, I'd probably go that route, but the Pro is the best of the 2013's, and I have rode all of the the '13's.

i too am on the fence about selling my 09 m1000 and getting the pro. but the polaris 800 and belt drive scare me, and then the new cat just doesnt seem all too reliable. i sat on a summit at the dealer the other day and i actually loved how it felt, i definitely want to try one out. Never thought id ever consider a doo.

i ride over in maine, 50/50 trail/mountain, and my m1000 141" is awesome. wish they put the suzuki 1000 into a pro rmk...
