I have 09 M1000 reverse has not worked a few times on the mountain. works ok in the parking lot but later no reverse, makes a racheting noise but is in nutreal. when you back to forward it does the same utill I turn the track by hand. Any ideas? Thanks!

2009 should be engine reverse. If it is a 2007 or 2008 I would check your belt deflection. If it is 2009, you have a problem inside the gearbox.

Possibly your belt was not all the way out, or you could say its still down a little. what happens is it misses the catch in the helix, the best thing to do is pick up the sled and spin the track. did you change the helix? if you did pm me.

if you have changed helixes or added a shift assist, this can happen.

It's just your secondary rollers not catching in the notch like snowdevil said.

Mine only does this when it's in a tight spot & I actually NEED reverse. If I hit reverse hard, it'll happen nearly every time.

I'll be honest, I'm not 100 percent sure, it should just allow the spring to avoid binding, but I feel that the binding may assist in driving the roller into the notch before it upshifts past that point.

I only have that issue when I try to reverse uphill quickly, like looking over a cornice & I realize that I'm off from where I think I was planning on dropping. (if it is a slight downhill cornice) If I get overzealous it tends to pop out.

Make a point of being more deliberate about how you drop into reverse & you'll likely be able to avoid this in that future. On my little sled just changing habits has done the trick.

Thanks! sounds like the same problem I am expereincing! I did find this when I pulled my diamond drive apart. I dont think this is the problem we are talking about.
