M1000 How long will it last?

Does anyone have an opion on how many miles a 1000 will get before a rebuild is in order. I have a M7 with 3000 miles, it will get new pistons for next season (for maintanence reasons only). And I would expect to get another 3000 trouble free miles out of it. Is the 1000 the same?
Thanks for any input you have.

800 miles on mine and 1 more ride to go. It will be a 100 mile ride 2!!! Had a look into my cylinders last nite and they look very clean no gouges or scratches and the pistons still look new. Im taking it easy on this sled with a few minor mods, its suppose to be my backup sled to my m7-900 big bore. LOL I put a few hundred miles more on it than the M-9. Im thinkin it will/can be an easy 3000mile runner before a rebuild................or turbo???????????????

My 08 1000's guage is stuck on the trip mode and reading over 900 miles.
It worked at the first of this season, so I know it was re-set early on.
Between that, and the multiple rides I have put on without a hood, I am sure I am at or well above 2000 miles... No problems, and a couple months ago while servicing powervalves everything looked good.
I plan on riding it one more season before a rebuild.
When I summerize it in a month or so I will post how the pistons/cylinders look.

My thought is that with how cheap & easy it is to change a set of pistons why not do it more often? I would say not over 2000 miles, if you've modded the piss out of a sled, not more than 1500 miles.

$200 or so for a top, $2000 for a bottom....
What does it take for an average person to do a top end, 1.5 hr? pretty mimial for insurance imo.

there's a lot of stress on those big 1000 piston skirts.

2100+ on my 08

plan to ride it another seasons of 1000+ unless i get really bored this summer
last inspection 100 miles ago everything looked spot on, but thats just a visual inspection so you know how far that gets ya! my 04 KK 900 has 3500+miles and still kicking

i recommend not letting it idle for extended periods, the motor shake is hard on the crank. When i warm mine up i vary the rpms' and keep it above 2400-2600 just past the shaking point till its warm. Dealers letting these sleds idle on the stand for 20 min is RIDICULOUS!! imo

I did in a motor at about 2000km. I have a friend that has 17000km on his, the first engine lasted 5600km, the second lasted 5300km. by the way, he is on about day 86 of riding every day!!!:beer;

I wouldn't worry about it until you hit 4000 miles
mine had a piston skirt break at 1090 miles, in turn took out the case! My brothers had 07 had piston skirt failure as well, his had 1600 miles on it! We have 5 M1000's and two of them had piston failures both on the mag side!! It would be a cold day in hell before i thought they would last 4000 miles! just my opinion

ill bet 100 bucks mine goes 4000.:)allmost 3000 with no problem.i let the big dog warmup 15 minutes.

That's exactly my point. Yeah, lots of them will go a lot of miles, but the risk vs cost of insuring you don't have the problem is SO low.

OMG Back cuntry you and I agree:eek::eek::eek: My boys sled had 4000 miles on it when I purchased it and I replaced the pistons and at about 500 we took out a skirt. So much for preventive maintaince------but with the bigger bores I would recommend changing out your pistons like most say just to be safe:D Like backcountry says its cheap insurance:confused:...garry

If you do it yourself make sure you do it right and check tolerance and inspect everything, in some cases its cheaper to pay the dealer for warranty issues. My 07 went 1400 miles and that was the expiration mileage on that one, I have 1100 on my 09 and expect it to go another season easily.
