M1000 Gearing... is it worth it???

Thinking about ditching the stock 60/60 gearing in my 07 and going to a 57/63. I can get the BDX gears for mechanical reverse through a dealer/friend for $190. How hard is it to swap the gears, and is it really worth the time/money. It's basically stock under the hood, just a can, some diff. clutch stuff, and a pc track.

I did it on mine and thought it made a good sled that much better. Felt like it was more torquey and slowed more quickly. Don't know how hard it is to switch them out. Had J and M in Worland do it for me. Might have been around $100 to have them do it. Don't remember for sure off the top of my head but I know it was reasonable.

Better in what regards? Torque is nice, and necessary in the M1000, do you feel like it has more track speed, does it climb/boondock better. I also forgot that I have a 3 post, 40/36 helix, and rock rollers. Not sure if that would make any diff.

It is only better if the thoughts of having gears in there that are stronger and won't shear off or break as easy. I have been through 2 stock diamond drive gear sets and replaced both with the BDX gears and have had no problem. Do it and save your self some grief later down the trail.

I see you are from blackfoot I am from Idaho Falls I run 55/65 Arctic cat gears in my 09 m 1000 . I have also put slp pipe and intake on mine . Then I done my own cluthing and reeds . All this made a big difference from stock . Better boondocking snappier on the bottom , belts last longer and it climbs better . I would go lower than 57/63 I would go with 55/65 then add more weight to your clutch . If you are interested you can go on a ride with me and my friends and try mine to see what it is like before you buy the gears . Let me know we are going this Saturday to Jefferson or Warm River by Ashton if you want to go .

Do it...and don't look back!

It's been my experiance that gearing is ALWAYS worth it. Especially with BDX....you get more torque, AND a more reliable set of gears, that as stated above, will not grenade on you and leave you stranded on the side of a Mtn.

had 57 / 63 in mine. belts lasted longer, felt quicker , more track speed climbing. just slapped in 54 / 66 in the other night. in the field at home it hits 80 mph right now. but no more. thats enuf if u ask me. to change them, pull your diamond drive cover off. take two screwdrivers and pry away driven gear out of planetary. (you wont hurt the gears trust me.) pop off bearings and place them on new gears. (Bearings pop off quite easily) If you have mechanical revrse u wil have to remove shift linkage. drive gear in cover just hammer out of bearing with soft hammer. and change with new one. put back together with new oil and your done. if you have an 08 or 07 i recommend getting the gasket kit. mine would leak and now with the 09 gasket kit no problems. If you are putting in 54 / 66 gears you wil have to shave the mechanical reverse linkage a bit to fit the gears in 2008 and older.

Thanks guys, all good info. I actually think I'll hold off until next fall and throw in the whole LW setup possibly with the SLP pipe kit, just have to see how work goes throughout the year.
J-Dog, sorry I just saw this, I'd love to ride with you guys sometime, I've got to spend some time with my wife and kids though tomorrow, let's keep in touch and work something out. I'd love to see how your sled runs.
