m1000 acting up

went riding yesterday and my sled was running great until about 30 miles into the ride. I was spinnin some cookies in a meadow and then shut my sled off to bs with friends. when i started the sled to go again it would start 1st pull every time but when i would try to give it gas it would cut out and sometimes die. if we lifted the back of the sled, ie no load, the sled would run normal. we towed it out about 5 miles and i decided to try it again. if i had my friends hold up the rear of the sled while i reved it up then drop it and i jumped on and did not let the sled get below 5k rpm it would run fine, but if i feathered the throtle it would cut out and die. after we tried this it died on me twice, then it took off and ran normal again the rest of the way back to the trailer. anyone have any ideas what might cause this. 07 m1000.

i had that happen to me once but it was like -15 atleast and as soon as i tried to engage the clutch it would die so i lifted it up and it still tried to die everytime the clutch engaged but eventially it warmed up and it was fine took a while tho! but im real interested on whats going on with yours cause its def not the same problem!

your dd could be going out, if it has a 4 post clutch on it, the spider will break, but may start binding as it goes. the exhaust temp sensor can cause problems also.

Something similar happened to me once with my 06 M7, turned out there was snow packed around the throttle lever which made the throttle position sensor kick in. When you initialy squeeze the throttle the pivot point slides forward, if snow prevents this the TPS will kick in. Cant explain why yours would keep going after you held the back up then dropped it with the track spinning, M1k torque maybe?

when this happens the sled wont rev past 4000rpm, I don't think this is the problem, But worth keeping an eye on.

My guess is the throttle position switch. Make sure your lefty is not too tight if you have one. I bet it iced up after sitting for a while. Unthaw it in the garage and I bet your problem goes away for good.

The throttle switch was my first guess too. I did experience something similar once. Also if you are ingesting alot of snow into the front of the hood, you may have gotten moisture in the CDI

Similar thing happened to me this weekend as well. Only just at startup after pulling sled out of trailer. Lifted the back up and worked the throttle a bit and problem went away. Felt like it was iced up. First time I noticed it because the sled is aways stored indoors.

thanks for all the help. i had thought of the tps but it does not make sense to me that we we lifted the track off the snow it would run just fine, then set the track back on the ground and it would cut out and sometimes die. i had also thought about moisture but there did not seem to be anymore in the nose than normal. thought of the clutches too, but couldn't see anything real obvious there either. guess i'll keep looking. just don't want to end up in a bad spot a long ways from the trailer and have it happen again.
