M-series---How do you know when you foul a plug?

With two per cylinder, how can you tell? Is it important that both fire, or just a way of getting it to pass emissions?

I dunno, but they do run fine on 1 plug per cyl. I inadvertently had 1 wire on each cyl disconnected for several hrs of riding. Didn't notice it until I stopped and opened the hood to dry out my gloves. Plugged them back in and couldn't tell any difference in perf.
Way I see it, Cat just lets you carry the spare plugs in the cylinders!
