DD drool
Leaking cases on the DD have been an on going problem and all of mine have leaked. I though I was always being picked on by the cat gods each time I got a sled, then as I fooled with this problem and really got after fixing it , some cat and after market guys reafirmed what I always suspected:
1. problem start with case flex.......when you take the whole wirlygig apart and look at the setup, your secondary clutch is hanging out there on a pretty skinny thin little cover plate.........and it flex's. So, you look at what's going on and where you would need to have this thin outer case really fastened to the gear case body to be solid and you find a couple of skinny screws ( backside toward foot wells.)
2. So the bigger the motor, the longer the track, the better the clutching, the more agressive the rider, the harder the snow, the more likely you are going have flex'en and leaking. Loose screws are an obvious problem, then stripped screw are a real problem, and part of my fix has been bigger dia screw with heli coils installed and real tight.
3. the case flexing causes poor gear alignment when under extreme stress and wouldn'd you know it, gear case failure ???? SUPRISE SUPRISE
Knowing the cuase helps avoid a dismal future. If you weight 300 lbs, got the new stiff track and like to slam uphill drifts on your 1000 be cautious.
If you turbo'd the girl and slam uphill drifts pinned........you're good cause that track is spinning so hard it won't hook and hurt.
The cat cases are weak cheese, If I recall bdxtreme's replacement setup is better material ? Is that correct BDx steam ?
