M flywheel timing lines?

Hey guys I'm currently digging through my sled trying to find the little demon that ruined last season for me. my question is when the mag piston is top dead center shouldn't the lines on the flywheel line up with the crankcase cutout line? i thought they were supposed to and so i ripped it apart and sent the crankshaft in. they said it was out of phase and when i put it back together they lines are about an inch off when mag is TDC. just looking for some knowledge. thanks

The timing marks will not line up at TDC the ignition fires BTDC at a certain degree I would have to know what model and size of engine you are working on to get you the correct timing specifications.
