Lowering Clutch Engagement? Primary Spring?

I bought a used TM8, I really like the way it is clutched, it rips, good belt life...
However, it engages around 4500. When it finally engages it makes a loud slap, which I feel contributes to replacing the diamond drive every season. How can I lower the engagement rpm and get rid of this slap? Lesser tension primary spring? Will a smaller primary spring change the clutching other than the engagement rpm? What spring do you guys recommend for a race gas TM8 13 pounds, 7000-11000ft?? Thanks

lower engagement

If you want to lower engagement, you need a shorter spring about the same stiffness as what you are running.

A stock M8 will easily pull old cat GOLD, 3900-4100 engagement on most sleds, an M6 and M5 with a well adjusted secondary will also.

Old RED cat spring, I run it on my M8, lower than the Gold, nice smooth 3600 engagement +- depnding on your weights. Several good Polaris options also, find spring charts like HPE catalogue.
