Low oil level warning issue

Hello,

I have an issue with the low oil level warning indicator light in the MFD on my '11 Pro RMK 800(163) - The indicator light is staying illuminated regardless of the oil level or input from oil level switch...........

- The switch is functioning properly(open when tank is full & closed when tank empty)

- No short to ground on the oil level input to ECU(violet wire)

According to the service manual the oil level indicator light is activated by the ECU & MFD via the CAN bus.............

Is this a programming issue that a dealer can take care of or is it more likely an internal fault in the MFD???

Thanks in advance,

Glen

FWIW I had some issues last year with this. My low oil light and my brake indicator light would stay illuminated when riding in really deep snow. Even tho both sensers were fine I figured it had to do with the display end of it. Possibly water got in the connections and then froze after stopping. I didnt worry too much as it went away. Hope this helps.

When my sled was new the oil light would come on once in a while, never worried about it. Doesn't do it anymore.

my oil light comes on after i have had the sled vertical one way or the other.
the oil moves in the tank and the low oil light comes on. but the light doesn't go away until i turn the sled off and than back on. i have learned to ignore it.

Thanks for the replies!

As tempting as it is to just ignore it, "Murphy's Law" tends to prevail in my general area...................It'd be my luck that the tank or hoses develop a leak that I don't notice in time & then I end up with seized/grenaded engine!!! :face-icon-small-dis

This is exactly what happened to me too!

I don't see how that would happen. If it leaks I would think you would notice that after it sat for a while. I think you are having the same gremlins the rest of us have experienced. :light:

I'd like to hope that I'd notice the leak before it ran completely out of oil but picture this if you will:

The oil supply hose for the injection pump starts partially breaks off(for some unknown reason) near the injection pump & the oil leaks directly underneath the engine.........It leaks quickly because the oil is thin from the heat being generated by the clutches & engine.............I'm riding in deep powder all day which obscures the tell tale signs of a leak coming from under the machine............Even if I am running pre-mix, that'll be of minimal benefit to the crankshaft..............Well, you get the idea...........

IMO, the light must be functional.................

Guess you will just have to open your side cover each time you stop if you are really concerned about it. I know when mine comes on i am always nervous, so I check it. The odds of you having a failure because of your oil line coming off are pretty slight. That oil would get all over the engine compartment and your belts would be slipping anyways, so you wont go anywhere. The clutches blow so much air around in there, it is unlikely that oil would not get on the clutches. Forget about it and ride.

It can happen! My '12 brass fitting on the oil pump fell out and the oil drained out. I found out only because I had gone back to the trailer and had a trail of blood under the sled. The damage had already been done though.

Merry Christmas!

Was your low oil level indicator light not working properly???

Yes, my light was working. That's why I went back to the trailer, while there was still oil in the tank, none of it was getting into the motor.

I only turn the sled on and off with the key. my kill switch is ziptied open. IF the oil light comes on. I turn off the key and back on again. the oil light goes off. if i was to turn the key off and back on and the oil light came back on, i would investigate. electric start is awesome.
