LOST near Albany; Garmin Rino 530

Lost my radio yesterday (1/24). I've been using the handlebar mount, worked great until yesterday. I don't think I had it clipped in all the way and it fell off near or at Albany lodge.

Pretty sure it was not ripped off when I mowed through a good size tree later in the day.

I know this is a long shot but will offer a reward if found. Thanks!!

Sorry to hear that!! :(

We did find one of those here last year in the middle of the trail, and I spent quite a bit of time trying to track down the owner. Just had his user ID in it......and after finding nothing in local papers......I came on here and searched every user name that contained some portion of the one on the radio. Was able to track who I thought it belonged to, but just placed a thread in the local section that I had found a radio, and that it needed to be identified to be claimed (didn't say what kind of radio).

Luckily we were able to return it to it's rightful owner! :) I wish you the best on getting your returned.

I use the handle bar mount for my rihno too but I also loop the tether cord around the bar before snaping it into the holder.

Have rolled the sled twice and it poped out of the mount but stayed with the sled and didnt get damaged :) Eric

I have always had great service from Garmin so I called them to determine if they could help ease the pain (cost) of replacing this. They can't prove that the mount didn't fail, nor can they prove that it was my stupidity in not clipping it in the mount right so they offered to send me a refurb for $130. I immediately asked for two but they would only sell me one.

As he is submitting the order he realized that they didn't have any refurb's in stock so he is sending me a new one for $130. Now that is customer service!!!!!

That truly is GREAT customer service!! I've been pondering getting a set of these (for hubby and myself)......just a bit pricey when having to get two. Nice to see how they stand behind their product! :)

If you're still looking for a second one I'll sell you your old one I found for $130 :boink:

Seriously though, Garmin has always treated me right. I rely on that thing probably way to much when I'm out and it's always pulled through.

Hopefully your other one is found and returned. :)

I do have some questions, if you don't mind. What were the *extras* needed for this? Mount? Maps? Memory?

1. If you want to mount on your bars you need: Note this is the cheapest I've found for this (these two pieces are typically sold separately via Garmin dealers).

2. TOPO Software - will provide you with TOPO Mapas for USA/CAN

3. Mini SD Card if you plan to keep several maps on your device. These are now pretty cheap.

So I read some talk about tethers up above. Is this a separate thing.......or using sled tether (my sled tether is attached to me at all times after dumping without it, and busting up my leg falling into the spinning track)? Definitely wouldn't want to lose these, and the hubby is good at losing radios, so want all precautions.

Have any pics of where you mounted yours? (or anyone)

The Cabela's mount does look stout, but that is a dashboard one......though it could maybe be modified.

Snow bungie sells a ram mount that they slightly modify so you can use small machine bolts and secure it into your dash. The leash can loop through these mounts for safety.

My guess is the lanyard that comes with it would work fine to attach is to the bars or something before you connnect it in the mount. That stick on mount from cabelas will not work. If the hand lanyard that comes with it I assume I will be able to find a longer lanyard somewhere...maybe the guys that commented earlier will post on this.
