Lost hand gun at Baker

A friend of mine lost a small hand gun on Sunday. His pack opened up and it fell out on the way up from the parking lot. He reported it to the State Patrol. If anybody finds it please private message me so he can get it back.
Thanks, Randy

I am just asking?

I understand the idea of being prepared, BUT...

A hand gun? What's the excuse to have a hand gun at Baker?

I have too many items in my backpack now, but I have no idea why I would need one of my handguns up there?

I have never seen or imagined a reason to have one, just saying.

What reason does anyone need to bring a killing tool to Baker?

Since when does someone need an excuse to exercise they legal rights (assuming they were legally caring the gun in the 1st place). I could list a 1000 reason for someone to carry, but why should I have too? The poor guy lost his property, his just trying to get it back.

I just don't know why?

I have lots of guns mostly people killing assault weapons. That's not my point, I can't figure out the need to take them to Baker. I can see having one in the trailer if you spend the night. Or even in the vehicle but up at Baker?

Is there a bad element up there? Cougars? Crows? Thieves riding double?

I have to say that everyone I have met up there is the nicest person, I have never had a bad vibe from any snowmobile rider up there.

I am just looking for one scenario where you go "damn glad I had my pistol sure came in handy?"

I could even see target practicing but at trees? did he have paper targets? snow men?

I am for gun rights but its funny where people choose to exercise their rights. This one has me stumped.

The gun is loose and unsecured just wondering what was worth this risk?

THERE'S GOLD IN THEM THAR HILLS!!!!! IT'S MINE ALL MINE!!!!!

dude, maybe the guy just did not want to leave it in the truck, vehicles get broken into in sno-parks. i would rather bring it with me too than risk putting it in the hands of a thief. it does not seem strange at all, the guy lost his property and is attempting to get it back. just curious, do you drive a prius?

I carry my hand gun almost every where I go. (Legally). Even snowmobiling. Have I ever felt like I might need it? Not snowmobiling, BUT, I definitely don't want to need it and not have it. After all you read about crazy people, it only takes one wacko to wish you had it. There are lots of people on drugs, mentally ill etc. that could confront you or someone with you and then what? I live near a town of about 7,500 and it's pretty remote. A couple of years ago we had a guy chase some young men down in the mountains near here in their car shooting at them for several miles. He ended up killing one of them. This was because they stole a $1.00 solar light. I don't justify them stealing and I hate thieves, but this did not warrant being murdered. He had some problems and was a loose cannon. We even had him shooting his gun to scare us off a meadow we were snowmobiling in. There were no signs and it was next to a road. I guess he owned it, but there was no way to know. I'm not one of those paranoid "sit in the back of the restaurant" guys but, point is you really just never know. Do I think you should carry? I could care less and that's totally up to you and I don't think any more or less of those that don't.

To the original post. Hope he gets it back. It would be kind of scary thinking it might get into the wrong hands. At least he did the right think to report it to law enforcement.

Handguns are for pussies, this is how I ride... hope you find your gun

No prius yet

I am only referring to Baker, other areas I get bringing a weapon. target practice, woods, animals, in remote areas accessible to meth heads and crazies.

Spoils Baker for me because those things aren't at Baker.
I don't like hanging in areas where guns are needed. I like areas that have friendly people concerned about your safety and well being, instead of bringing weapons to do people harm. shovel and probes, an extra beverage or snack. friendly conversation that's what's needed around the sledding community. Everyone who approaches me is either offering help or needing help. I like it that way!

Snowmobilers are the best people, up there everyone is your friend, willing to help. I have been offered the use of peoples sleds and an extra hand on a shovel. I think its an insult to the Baker sledding community to need a gun.

Anyone who carries a gun thinks it solves a problem. I don't think Baker has gun problems.

Its more paranoia than logic.

"This would be so much better with a handgun in my backpack!" ??????

How do you know when you will need a probe?

How do you know when you will need a beacon?

How do you know when you need an over night sleeping bag?

A first aid kit?

Fire starting equipment?

A firearm?

The point is we all carry tools for the "just in case" situations. Unless the Mt. Baker area has signs up that prohibits crazies and criminals in the area (you know a gun free zone like malls and schools where there is never any violence) I pack too as I worry more about the two legged animals than the ones that run on four legs (or 8) :spider:

The only thing to say is that it his right to carry where ever he pleases, and none of our business *until he loses it like an idiot*

I have brought my handgun in my pack before. I didn't want it to get stolen if my truck were to get broken into, so I had to lug it up the mountain. I don't usually bring it with me, but put it in my holster that morning out of habit.

not the first local snowest rider

to lose a gun on the hill. looks like a trend lol
Hope he gets it back.

Thanks for the heads up Randy.
hope to see you on the hill sometime .

In my first conceal/carry permit class many years ago they made it VERY clear that you need to be responsible for your firearm at all times. On your person is best and not in a jacket or pack if you can help it but just dont leave it somewhere unattended. Unfortunately mistakes happen.

When I go on a sled trip I sometimes end up in a cheap/questionable motel. I personally like to have my gun on me. Especially when traveling.

I do not like to take it sledding but its safer with me than at the motel or locked in my truck on the other side of the mountain. .

I hope an American finds it

I don't know the rules on having a few drinks when your carrying a concealed weapon? Can I assume that if their drinking they are not carrying?

RCW 46.10.495
Additional violations—Penalty.
(1) No person shall operate a snowmobile in such a way as to endanger human life.
(2) No person shall operate a snowmobile in such a way as to run down or harass deer, elk, or any wildlife, or any domestic animal, nor shall any person carry any loaded weapon upon, nor hunt from, any snowmobile except by permit issued by the director of fish and wildlife under RCW 77.32.237.
(3) Any person violating this section is guilty of a gross misdemeanor.
[ 2003 c 53 § 234; 1994 c 264 § 37; 1989 c 297 § 4; 1979 ex.s. c 182 § 11; 1971 ex.s. c 29 § 13. Formerly RCW 46.10.130.]

loaded, does that mean mag out or bullets out of the revolver? I am sure this is just a no hunt on the snowmobile rule but saw this while I searched for alcohol and concealed weapon.

Quite a few years ago if I remember right a guy left his 44 Magnum on the back of his sled and took off. He could never find it. Some hikers found it in the summer and he actually got it back. I also think he was riding Baker. Again this was some time ago so my story may be off some.
