loose exhaust bolts

Need to do some work to the sled for this upcoming season. Last ride out I had a few Y pipe bolts come loose and hadn't fixed them yet. Any of you guys have some tips for making sure they don't back out? I tried the nord lock washer and they still came loose after about 10 hard rides. Pain to get to these so I'd like a more pemanent solution. Thanks for any good ideas.

Hmmm...never had that issue with nord locks. Use new gaskets, makes sure threads are clean on bolts and holes, make sure nord locks are assembled correctly, use a thin layer of high temp rtv on gaskets, a little lock tite on bolts, tighten (torque correctly) and let set up and ride. Never, ever had an issue......all back country miles.

Nordic washers worked on on my sled, I had actually had 2 bolts missing when i bought the sled, rode all year with nordic washers and they are still tight, assemble correctly shouldn`t give any troubles.

Good Luck, Wildcard

Ski-doo sells a up-dated bolts for that problem. They are a little longer and have a tape like lock tight on them. I had this problem every year. Never happens anymore!

NORDLOCKS---- PROBLEM SOLVED. I installed them 3 seasons ago. The Y pipe bolts are just as tight as the day I installed them.

New gaskets, nord-loc's, blue loctite....and then re-torque them after the first ride. Should be good after that.

Good info, but you shouldn't re-torque after applying Loctite. You'll break the bond you created with the Loctite. Not trying to be an ***, just figured I would throw it out there.

Loctite gets soft when it gets hot so in this particular case it really doesn't matter as it will liquify and then re-harden when it cools. I absolutly agree in theory though...doing this on something that doesn't get hot would lessen the effect of the loctite.

Next time you mess with a tough fastener try this:

Stuff a piece of a shop rag on top of your ball allen wrench or socket. Push the fastener you're trying to install down on top of the rag. Might need to adjust how much rag, paper, whatever, to get the fastener to fit on there tight. Get the bolt or whatever you're working with straight and thread her in.

Please remember to pick-up the trash! Heat and rags love to cause issues.:face-icon-small-ton

Remember Loctite is anerobic. It won't liquify as long as there isn't air present. Use red Loctite 271. It's designed for hi-temp/vibration areas.

you just have to check them after every couple rides

Did the nord Locks 3 seasons ago. Used stainless bolts and nickel based anti-seize. Just tore down the motor, they were still tight. Prob put 1800km on them. Good product.
