looking to rebuiild

im looking to rebuild the ole 9. i am in need of plastics, everything except the hood. anyone got any laying around. i also need to get 2 new pistons and a new crank. the crank ill go to indy dan for, but if i can get the rest for a decent price ill rebuild her. im currently in afghanistan and will be home just after new years.

I've got the stock fenders, nose and bumper from an Anniversary edition (gray), but I would highly recommend going with the new style plastics, looks much better and less to drag through the snow.

First off..

Thanks for all u do for us over there! Proud to serve with u ;)

Just make sure u get the 06 oem stock pistons..NOT the spi brand..weiscos are ok but oem is better

I would also go with the 09 up newer style body..but u will have to use the fire and ice intake with that front end (can't use stock)

Or... build your own.

Thanks guys for the advice. A friend said Babbitts has the plastic kit for 389 so I shot them an email today. I was wondering which pistons would be better between oem and aftermarket so thank you for that Guido. I currently have a TimberSled Intake. Will that work with the 09 plastics or only a Fire and Ice?

the T-sled intake will work... but not as well as the FNI.... make sure you vent the hood well.

If the crank is bad... most likely, so are the cases... But Indy can probably take care of this for you.

Cheers,
Eric

With the new plastics... you will need to reposition the exhaust outlet for the 900 as they are not in the same place... i like to order a new outlet plate, rivets and muffler-to-body gasket for installation.... plug the old hole with a carefully cut out piece of the old fender.

Welcome Home!!!

BTW... Check with Babbits if they have a Military discount... Also "freeagent" on the forums here has great prices...

ALWAYS check the delivered cost... shipping can make a big difference in price. ESPECIALLY on a bulky body kit.

The cases looked good when I pulled the crank out. It broke at the usuall spot, pto end. As soon as I heard a pop when I was riding it I shut it down right then. Thanks for more great info Mountain Horse. Im waiting for an email back from Babbitts. Im still in Afghan til after new years so I still got some time.

As for the cases... If you actually broke the crank... You will, minimum, need to have the cases checked.

If the bearing fit is not just right in the cases.. you will have more problems and be throwing good money after bad.

IMO.. send the cases to Indy ... if they are good.. he will use them... if not... and it is possible, he will line-bore them... if not... you will need new cases... Indy will not sell you parts or service you don't need.

Good luck!
