looking to do a turbo on my Snomo-quad

Hey guys I am seriously looking into turboing my AC 900twin I have in my quad I use for duning/sand dragging.

I have no experience with them at all but have been talking to a gentleman that has done them and wants to help set me up.
I will do all the fabricating which is not a problem for me.
He will modifiy a unported set of stock cylinders for better turbo performance
(less blowdown)
And give me a list of all the parts and how to set them up.

We talked about no intercooler because of space and instead running a methanol injection setup.
Or probaby better yet, running alcohol(methanol) carb setup instead of gas.
Then maybe a intercooler or injection would not be needed then.

I presently run gas on this bike but my other race bike is on methanol with a lectron 50mm carb. So I am experienced with running alcohol just not in a turbo setup.

My bike presently makes 175hp at 7600rpms on premium gas.
I would like to see 250hp @ 10-12lbs of boost running race gas or Alcohol does this sound resonable?

I would also like to run factory cast pistons at this boost level. The reason for this is the bike coolant will run 175-190(coming out of the motor) while riding/racing, alcohol would cut this down allot though.

I presently have custom fit inframe style twin pipes that I would prefer to run instead of a single pipe that I would have to build for the chassis, what is the down side of running twins compared to a single pipe.

I was told that a garret 2876 or the bigger 3071 turbo is what I should run.

I run the factory 40mm rack carbs bored to 42mm now, would these be the best for this setup?

what about ignitons is there a adjustable ignition for these motors or a certain year cdi to better suit the turbo.
I have 3 cdi now 94 zr900, mountain 900 and a race curve box. The zr900 has the least amount of timing.

thank you for your thoughts and help

Dave,

Garr at OVS is the biggest expert on that engine and turbo. he has done dozens of those.. I rode one for years and it was flawless..

Try giving Garr a call.... he has all the info yo will need?

thanks kelsey,
do you still have the dome specs from your setup?
Was thinking of going with a billet head, do you still offer these with changable domes.
