Looking to buy a Tig Welder

I know welding with tig is slow but i feel more comfortable sending out a product that i am happy with the looks and quality of the weld vs a good weld that looks like crap. at work we just got a OTC aluminum mig that has built in pulse that can make a weld look alright, just dont wana drop the 15 grand that they did.

and its not like im going to be building a sled deck in a day, this is for me to play with in my shop after work.

i was leaning towards the dynasty 200 because of the size of it and price point, i dont want to have more than say 4500 into the machine itself. all the other odds and ends i know are going to cost a bit but what can you do.
im really considering a package on ebay right now for a dynasty 200dx watercooled and a cart with the torch and everything for 4800.

ill look into the syncrowave a little more

I totally agree on the mig weld quality on decks and trailers, our main reason for not wanting to build one since we are too picky. They look like garbage. If you're looking at the 200 dx why don't you look and see how much more the 280dx is if its released yet? They come with a lot of the options that the Dynasty 350 and 700 come with but are significantly smaller and use less energy as well due to being an inverter style machine.
It will be the best crossover welder out there figuring on size, power consumption, capabilities, and cost. I wanna say we priced out a 280dx with setup similar to what you were pricing on ebay and it was in the same price range. But it wasn't released soon enough for us. I would also skip the ebay sell and go to a local welding supplier for one if going new, they come with warranties and do come in handy occasionally. A used Syncrowave can be had all setup for under 3K if you look in the right places.

Just looked. 280DX isn't on Millers site at all. The 200DX does look like it has some of the nice features that the 350 and 700 have. Only problem I see is that on 230 volts its duty cycle at 200 amps is only 20%, It will be super easy to over temp that when welding in AC current. It might not seem like a big deal until you NEED something to be done and you're stuck waiting for it to cool down so you can continue welding. Or after a year of using it you want to tackle a project that has some 3/8 plate in it and you wont be able to pool a weld on it without using a helium mix to get it hot enough.

I planned on mixing gasses I saw a guys setup once and that was slick as ****. Used way less heat than I would have used on the same piece. I too wish there was something between the dynasty 200 and the 350..... Well miller you have about a week to release that 280 cause I'm getting an itchy buy finger.

I like my syncrowave 250dx at work but I don't know I'd really like to try something different and not so large. I'm a little cramped on space for about a year. Where the 250 is like having a fridge as a welder.

The dynasty 280 is not released yet we are getting one first 280's at work as soon as they finish testing them.

We have around 10 of the 350 dynasty's and these machines are amazing for welding aluminum like others have said get the bigger machine especially if your planing on welding 1/4 and 3/8 aluminum plus with the 350 you get more options with the wave and frequency control and these will make a syncrowave 250 look like an old buzz box.

Also don't use the pulser for AC welding just use the type of wave( soft square, advanced square, sine, triangle) you prefer and set up the frequency right and these machines will do what ever you want from thin to thick or even welding on an edge without burning over sharp edge all while using just straight argon.
