looking to buy a new polaris. track length and what model

fairly new to sledding just rented a 2006 arctic cat crossfire 700cc with a 136 ripsaw track. just to see if i'd be interested in buying a sled etc. and it was fun but I want something quite a bit faster in acceleration (like scary fast).

I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. so its pretty flat here, was fun just going WOT through fields but I also want a sled that can handle deep powder trips to the mountains in British Columbia..

going to be buying a 2013 so had a couple questions on which models and track to be looking at..

1. as I said I like super fast acceleration. which models should I be looking at? I was thinking of getting a 800cc (would it be a lot faster then the 700 i rented?)

2. best track length to get? to my knowledge the longer the track would mean better the traction and faster accel right? but then the longer the track the more the sled would weigh and possibly slow me down??

thanks.

your wanting 2 different sleds honestly. A FAST sled is not a mountain sled. if your planning on making trips to the mountains id look into a crossover sled. They bridge the gap between trail riding and mountain riding. Maybe even like an assault. Not sure what fast meens to you... My turbod pro will run 94mph. You can get a 600 to run 100mph. Biggest difference will be how hard the bigger sleds pull and accelerate. SO basically if your looking to go to mountains and ride race flats, id say look into a 144-156 track length, get an 800 then just pick a one. Like i said id look into the switchback or the assaults or even an RMK.

ya just realized that haha, more for speed then mountains probably.

was looking at the 2013 switchback assault international 144.

is a 800 going to be quite a bit faster then a 700?

I have a 2012 pro rmk 155 and also live in sask, with a few tastefull mods and my top speed is 86mph, great traction, and on in the mountains this sled stock has put me in some crazy places, ide say get a pro rmk, i did and never looked back! Good luck!

hmm are arctic cats more powerful then polaris sleds??

I got the crossfire 700 i rented up to 93mph and it seemed to have more in it but the ride got really sketchy and I didnt want to go any faster lol

mountain sleds are not designed to be traveling at that speed

you cant have both, speed and a mountain sled, only a happy medium, an 800 with a 144 sounds like the ticket

theres more to it then just power. My turbod pro only does 94mph max. But that is how it is geared and clutched. I could take the same sled put a different track, gearing and clutching and turn it into a 140mph monster if i wanted to.

makes sense.

I just want the sled I buy to be faster accelerating (pull harder) then the crossfire 7 i rented.

would a 800 with a 144 do this?

The arctic cat 700 in a shorter track(<144) will out pull most 800 mountain sleds with a 155" or bigger track. The mountain sleds all have 2.5" paddles and your 700 you were on probably had less than 2". So there is a lot less friction/ drag going on with the crossfire. Now point both sleds up a mountain with 2' of powder and the 800 longtrack will leave the crossfire in it's tracks.

As your riding matures you will find that just going fast is completely boring. You have enough snow to go off trail and explore and do powder turns and jumps. 800 assault recommended.

And the power difference between 600 700 and 800 is not crazy dramatic. All are powerful but you will have to mod them to get scared. An 800 should be more than sufficient particularly if you are at low elevation.

--For the flats--

-42" or wider ski stance for high speed stability and cornering
-141" x 1.5" lug track for good acceleration and high top speed(studded if hard packed or icy)
-the best OEM suspension for soaking up jumps, for control, and comfortable ride
-strong, reliable drivetrain(not Pro)
- good cooling system able to handle trail use(not Pro)

--For deep powder mtns.--

-36"-38" ski stance for control in powder
-generally a 153" - 155" x 2.25 - 3" track for traction(biggest lug OEM track you can get that comes with sled is best)
-the best OEM suspension for jumps, and higher speed trail
-powerful, reliable engine (do diligent research here)
-reliable drivetrain and strong chassis( do diligent research)

--You can convert your Xcountry sled to a descent mtn sled for the occasional trip

-narrow set of A-arms
-swap out track for deeper lug version
-clutching and gearing
