Like the title i am thinking about picking up an 02 700 rmk 144 and wanted to hear some opinions on this sled and if this would be worth it. I heard that the engine is very reliable, and puts out a good amount of power. Will i be able to do some highmarking on this sled, etc. thanks in advance :D

I have an 04 700 switchback 144 which is about the same I took it out west fir the first time last week and it did pretty good your rmk would probily do a little better since it should have a two inch paddle I would say it would be a good buy considering the shape miles and price

I've got an '05 700 144. For the most part it is great fun. It probably won't be pulling the high mark unless you are riding with some older iron. I had to replace the front motor mount by the clutch this year and geared it down. Otherwise it is bone stock and I like it that way. Watch the rpm's for your riding area and get the clutch set to max out at peak power.

Besides typical/expected maintenance it should be a good sled.

The 2002-2005 edge RMK's have alot going for them

alot of parts available
Good solid chassis and did I say alot of parts available
The 700 is pretty stinking reliable
Easy to work on, everything is pretty simple
No digital wrench or mapping required! (ok I'm old school here but my old 800
always runs good and I don't need a dealer to lay a hand on my sled $$$$)
I had a M8 last year and just over a Month out of warranty the ecu went bad. It still ran but just acted like it was stuck in a limp mode. It took the dealer 5 weeks to figure it out and nearly 2000.00 later I got my sled back.
We had a ecu go bad on one of our edge sleds the year before. So we bought a PERC kit for 300.00 off ebay and a stator for 80.00 and put all the parts in so we were absolutley sure it was going to be perfect and had it ready for the very next weekend. I'll be riding mine for quite some time to come...

good sled

I have an 02 rmk 700 144 and I love this sled. I am about 215 lbs and this sled has more than enough power for me. The only things I have done is put new shocks on because the stock ones are sh*t and put a handlebar riser on. you will love that sled if you decide to buy it.

yup! Bro's 04 700RMK 144 works really well. he has the Slp pipe and can, v-force reeds and a Holtzman ATACC. The little buggers pulls me 800.

I have an 05 700, not completely stock, but a 151. I love the sled. Did have the crank go out on it. Also, you have to watch out for the chain case bolts, they have a tendency to break off. Should change those every year. Other than that, I love the sled. You can do a few little things to get some extra power. Gut out the airbox, put in some extra flow vents, and just make sure you have someone who knows how to jet it correctly for altitutde, and set the clutch for optimum power. There is alot of good history with the dealers on the best settings for your area on these sleds.

I think I know someone here in colorado who might want to sell his 800 02 144. . .

avoid the 800's

I personally would go with the 700 and avoid the 800s all together. The 800s have had way too many crank issues and plus they are very thirsty.

Yea i have pulled out my fair share of 800's Behind my good old 03' 700 144" I live this thing and will never sell it. last weekend i pulled a highmark on an 2010 Dragon 8 155" but i weigh 50 pounds less and got way bigger balls lol. Check out my sig for what it has done to it. The SLP can is the only thing power wise. Going to do a 700T next season But will always keep it for a back up. O one hint if u ride like me, Weld some pipe the correct size over the lower radius rods! I like to mow down trees lol (they are the weekest link for mowing over trees)

I have one --

thanks for all the replies everybody, they have been very helpful, i've made up my mind, i'm probably going to pick one up in a while, going to get a couple more years out of my mod 500 though :D these sleds sound pretty solid, and for mods i was thinking about a can, pipe, reeds, gutted airbox, ufo's on carbs, gear it down, tune carbs, clutch, powder pro's, riser, etc.
maybe even a 153 skid and a powerclaw.

does anybody know how much these sleds weigh dry?

getting an 03 sounds like a better idea so I can get a 151...
i looked on the SLP website and found out they have 129 hp stock,
and with some mods I can easily get 140+ outta it. can't find out how much they weigh though, If anybody knows the dry weight of the 03
700 rmk 151 please post it up. I'm thinking probably around 490 lbs. :beer;

I am going to be putting mine up for sale within the next month or so. Gonna ask $2300obo. The sled is one hell of a runner and i am just looking for a newer sled. My dad has an 03 800ves and i rode that for one day and i couldn't hardly feel the difference in power. the 800 just has alittle more on the top end. Pretty equal on the bottom. If you would like pictures of mine, hit me up at burton_snowrider@hotmail.com and i'll send'ya some!

I don't have the money to buy a sled right now. thanks though.. probably gonna pick one up in 4 years, and if i'm riding my 500 for several more years i'll
become a better rider in the long run, riding a lesser sled... sure will get good at not getting stuck/getting unstuck!
