Looking for storage ideas

Anybody have any experience with the Ogio backcountry bag or the Giant Loop Revelstoke bag? I am looking to get my shovel off my back and have some more room for storage. While we're at it gas can ideas or solutions, I am currently using A Mountain Addiction can but looking to see if there is something better.

from a safety point of view you should always have a shovel, probe and beacon on you

Keep that shovel on your back grasshopper!!!

If you insist in not having it there, the mountain addiction bag holds the shovel head on top and handle on the side.

Why don't you like the mountain addiction can? If having troubles sliding on and off, put a little bit of Pam cooking oil on the rails. It makes a huge difference.

I understand the safety aspect of having the shovel on my back, My problem is that my BCA bag requires the shovel to be inside of it so I never use it. Maybe I should just buy a new backpack with a place for the shovel on the outside? I don't mind the MA can just wondering if anyone has seen or tried something better. I sold my kit with the can and drybox on it and snowchecked an aro, trying to get a head start on the new set-up and looking at all the options.

I had the same problem. My solution was two shovels. A small (mostly unused) shovel that fits inside my bca and a much larger metal shovel that i bungee on my tunnel that i can access quickly to dig out my sled buddies or make a fire pit.
Another benefit is that my avy pack doesn't leave my back if i'm dumb enough to get stuck where i really shouldn't be hanging out:face-icon-small-hap

I make a cover bag for the Mountain Addiction gas can that offers storage and hold a small shovel head as well as clips for probe and shovel handles, I don't recommend it for traveling in avalanche terrain.

Also offer a cover for the same gas can that hold your shovel head with clips for shovel handle and probe, again only for those not in avalanche conditions.

Because of the popularity of the standard gas can cover I'm thinking seriously of taking the other 2 styles off the website.

As far as the shovel in the back pack theory goes why would anyone think that having a piece of pipe behind or to the side of the pack riding a motorcycle is a good idea ?

It doesn't make any sense when it comes to planning safety .

A plastic snow shovel would make more sense .
To each there own

Wow. Every man for himself huh? To each their own.
By the way try digging through set up avy debris with your plastic shovel.

Sorry , freak accidents happen . We lost a couple of people last year too .

What I ment by to each there own is that what works for one won't work for another , you have to be your own judge .

it's about SOP. if an avy comes and swallows your friend(s), and your bike... How are you to dig anyone out when the only shovel (plastic?) you have is on your bike, buried. ALWAYS an avy shovel on your back, securely in your backpack.

I gotcha

My criticism was a bit harsh. I apologize. Sucks losing friends in avalanches. Too many of us know how that feels. I believe strongly that people need to have a shovel on their back and didn't want others to think that it's a hazard to do so. I havn't seen or heard of anyone getting injured by their shovel but I'm sure it's possible. I have hurt my ribs with my beacon before but I'll continue to wear it.
Let's all have a safe fun season.

No it's not harsh , you pointed out something that the majority probably seen the same way . So thank you for doing that .
What's hard is drawing the line , there's so many factors and by purchasing the lasted and greatest or what everyone recommends doesn't make a person bullet proof . Knowing your limits doesn't help when your in unknown riding areas and the sales pitch is this is what you need to ride there .
The shovel in the pack is an on going conversation . If you flip threw some of the current sledding magazines you'll notice most of the avy packs are not toting a shovel .
It's a touchy hot topic and when it comes to lives the disagreements can be heavily one sided .
There will be more fatalities as these one ski machines progress .
There's a placed up here called Hatchers Pass and I won't ride there anymore . It's way to easy to start a slide and only a fool wood think that's cool .
Again thank you for being so nice , I know I can be a real butt :face-icon-small-hap

Count me in with those that will always have a shovel on my back. A second shovel on the bike or sled for non emergency digging is something i sometimes do.

I run a bca avy vest. Inside storage is small plus i dont like snowy icy shovels inside by bag so i bought the optional exterior shovel holder and ran it all last season and liked it.
