Looking for new tv

Been looking at new hdtv's. I was originally looking at the samsung slim depth projection tv with dlp. looking at them in the stores their picture looks great and i am not planning on wall mounting so the savings would be worth it. but now i see the prices of some of the flat pannels are coming down, the sharp aquos is one in particular i have been looking at. i am far from an expert so could someone enlighten me about the differences in some of these tv's? some of the lcd's say 120 Hz. i am assuming this is better but could someone explain how? are the lcd or plasma flat pannels worth the extra cash over a dlp rear projection??

120Hz refers to the refresh rate, higher is better. 120Hz = 8mS refresh. 60Hz = 16mS refresh.

Sharp Aquos is a nice TV, parents have one. Great picture.

I wouldn't go with plasma.

But I'm no expert.

Bulbs for DLP's can be VERY pricy and are have been known for short life. LCD's are nice, plasma is real nice is your willing to spend the $$. The earlier Plasma's had some issues but the newer ones have been good. Or so I'm told by people in the industry. :beer;

so the higher refresh rate would mean there would be less grainyness in some of the highspeed scenes? my parents have a bravia and i have noticed when watching nascar or football sometimes when the camera moves fast the picture gets grainy.
i have seen some of the new dlp's come with l.e.d. bulbs that are supposed to be brighter and more durable.
as far as plasma vs. lcd, the prices have pretty much evened out on them. but there are other threads discussing the pro's and cons of each.

Buddies' Vizio 50" Plasma is a SPECTACULAR TV for the money......

My parent's 60" Sony LCD Projection was over 2.5 times what the Vizio plasma was, but you can see the difference, ESPECIALLY on Blu Ray. Buddies' TV is about 10' from the couch, my parents' is more like 20'. G/F told me "your parents' don't go to the movies anymore, do they?" lol.

Buy a Vizio if you want to buy one in another couple of years. If you want the best TV for the money, buy a Samsung LCD. Best TV period. If you want plasma, buy a Pioneer or a Panasonic. I am no expert, but I have been in the Consumer Electronics Industry for 23 years. Ask a TV sales person what TV they own, 75% will tell you Samsung LCD or Pioneer/Panasonic Plasma. If price is an objection, look at LG (comparable to Vizio in Price, not quality, much better) or Best Buy's house brand Insignia (made by LG).

we just got a samsung 46 inch 1080 lcd with the 120 mhz refresh rate. This tv is amazing hook up the ps3 and play some college football and the picture quality is unreal. Also the HD channels are perfect. Now all I need to do is get some blue ray sledding dvd's in and I will be set.

3 words: Pioneer Elite Plasma

Judge with a side by side comparison of all others and you will see. You will pay more but in return get what is the best in picture and manufact warranty. Others will tell you that Sony, Sharp, LG & Panasonic are as good...if you see the same picture on ech TV side by side you'll see the honest truth.

anyone else get the feeling that everyone has an opinion, and they all are based on what they own? :) Maybe that's just my opinion though...

samsung DLPs rock! get the LED bulb version and your set for 10 years!

i get compliments on my TV picture all the time... started recording stupid shows like so you think you can dance and gossip girl etc... next thing i know i have tons of chics coming over to the house to watch the recorded shows on the big screen... and yes i take care of business after the shows :p
