I just bought a cmx with the Engine tech 900 in it.
What issues do these have?
Are they a reliable motor?
Thanks
Gary

This has been up for about a week with no replies.
Guess I will take a chance and find out for myself.

You'll get better response putting this in the category for whichever motor the 900 is in.

The ET9 in the cat M7 is less than astounding performance wise (comparable to a stock 1000), and relatively reliable, but I thought CMX used poo motors, so I can't say squat about that setup.

CMX used the poo 800 bottom end for this one in 05 anyway.
I will try your advice.
Thanks for the reply
Gary

Had a friend who had one in a vertical edge chassis. It did go down on his first trip out west but they stood behind the motor. He ran it for about 3 years before he sold it and bought a newer sled. Seemed to run pretty good.

Friend of mine runs one in his m7. He likes it. Lost the top end once, looked like a lean burn down. But it's been great for about three years other wise.

Thanks for the replies,I was thinking to repace it with a stock 800 top end but if it is a good runner I will leave it and just replace the domes with low elevation ones.Much cheaper that way anyhow. It will be riden mainly in Ontario Canada.
Just need snow!

the single pipe version runs good, the twin pipe, race fuel version is a hot rod. Good reliable motor. Keep it!!!!!!

I run one in a 06 M7 chassis, though mine is based off the 700 Cat. It's been a very reliable and strong running motor. You're not gonna get 200 hp outta this motor, but I'm running Jaws twins and I think I'm somewhere in the mid 170's.
If you have any setup or tuning issues, call Art at Engine Tech. I did a few times and he was great to talk to and very helpful. You're right in Art's backyard so I'll bet he can tell you exactly what you need for this motor to work.
Backcountryislife, I haven't been beat by any stock 1000's. It's not makin more power than the 1000, but it's about 100 pounds lighter :face-icon-small-hap.

Thanks guys, just gonna run it after some low compression domes jetting and clutching for low elevation.
The biggest concern was the reliability question on this motor.I like to ride in some very remote and hard to get to places and when a motor goes down......well you know the problems that causes.
Thanks

As long as the bottom end is built properly with the big bearing, or even an Indydan bottom end, it's close to as reliable as a stock 800 polaris VES motor is. I've built a few engine tech motors and had him port some cylinders for customers, all motors ran great and his tuning reccomendations were quite close also. My .02
