2 positives
1 negative= care to elaborate?
Pretty much the same experience as Dan, the shop was a **** hole and while there I watch some pretty sketchy stuff going on. I'm far from a professional and I still wouldn't put my name on the work that was being done.
I went there to have something pressed out, waited while it was done. took a total of three min. and $50 dollars later he was done, partly my fault for not asking how much when he said he could do it and it would take a min or two. I don't take too kindly to price gouging and lack of pride in workmanship.
Won't be going back and I wouldn't recommend anyone else did either.
ccpowder said:Shop may have not been up to your standards (or Dan's), which is a valid point.
Yes the shop and workmanship weren't up to my standards, after all I care how my machine looks and runs.
As for charging you a minimum charge, that is not price gouging, it is standard practice (and $50 is on the low end). Some shops may choose to waive that charge, but that is at their discretion.
Yes I know what a minimum rate is, it wasn't posted and I wasn't told anything about it before (yes partially my fault). Most shops that want return business don't have asinine polices that deter return business, and I was dealing with the owner so it should have been easy to "waive" it and charge what 3 min. is worth.
Bottomline, you didn't get screwed so get over it!! ANd what he charged you to press on or off drivers is the going rate.
I am over it, he got me once and it's cost him several thousand in my return business and well more than that in other service I have steered away from him. As for the going rate, I have had the same thing done in two other shops since. Care to guess what I paid (I'll tel you anyway)
South Valley $5
Cutlers Free 99
Now I don't expect anyone to work for free, but charging "fair" rates has garnered A LOT of my return service and sales for two of the best in the business (TCP & CPC).
Same goes for FreeAgent, not trying to rape me on the first purchase has got her quite a bit of my business and its going to keep coming (along with referrals to everyone I know looking for something she can get).
Point is "fair" pricing and a lack of stupid policies are a good way to ensure patronage.
also goes to show what kind of work your capable of performing.
Unfortunately, just means that maybe you should have been in the cleaning industry and not a mechanic!!
So, this is what we know:
- Nothing to say that Sam doesn't do good work
- People who snowmobile are cheap and want everything for free
- You may not want to eat your lunch at his shop!!
Used this example already, but any of you ever had your furnace worked on?? How much do they charge just to show up at your house?? Having a minimum fee is not uncommon. Could you imagine if Sam was to get 100 of these guys a day, all wanting him to do a 5 minute job for free?? He would be a great mechanic on this forum, and would be begging on the street for food to eat on his dirty floor....
