Looking for a primary clutch 04 600

Anyone rebuilding the Comet's on here. I would be interested in something else as well if it is a proven set up . Just found that my comet is in dire need for a rebuild and Hawk Fest is closely approaching .

When you say Comet do you mean the Stock Salad Bowl ? If so I'd say don't waste your time throwing maintenance dollars at something that you'll want to replace down the road.

here a clean P-85 for 150$: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/POLA...64958219QQptZSnowmobileQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Plenty of others on Ebay, type in "polaris primary". TRA seem to be a bit more money (I don't want to start a debate once again on which is a better clutch P-85 or TRA but I sure like to click up or down to get the RPM I want with my TRA)

As far as tuning it for a 6 hunnart, IbBroken has one so he's got a good receipe for it i'm sure !

Comet is basically a polaris knockoff p85. The good thing about the comet is that it fits the crank shaft. The p85 doesnt. I guess someone is lathing these to fit .

The comets are actually easy to rebuild, and you should be able to get all the parts you need from Western Power sports. The hardest part is getting the spider nut off, but you don't need to go that far into it unless the bushing on the sliding half is toast.

How bad is your current clutch?

Bad . Total rebuild. All bushings never even rolled with the weights. Robbed h.p.. I priced everything out at about $90. The tools would be another $ 125 . If anyone does work on these , I could send it off andf then hopefully see them at the show and get it back then . I might look at a tra 3 off a 600 skidoo .

You'll never get the spider apart with out the tool, I have made a tool before, its not that tough. The comet/p85 is much easier to tune, the tra is nice if your changing elevation alot because you can adjust rpm on the fly. All in all its up to you, plenty of guys on here running the tra to give you setup tips. Try to get a TRA III its a better clutch than the tra II.
