looking at 09 everest

I would save alot of money and get a new 08 for a great deal.
Clutch it, vent it, gear it, and spend the rest on whatever you want.
Once it is clutched, geared, and vented it will work great with the 377 belt.
I would also put a two wheel kit on it and remove the sway bar.

i know a guy who owned an 07 m8 and just got a 09 xp and hates the xp. i think he said he hates they way they handle.

Yep get a new 08 and save the $2000 or buy a used one and save even more. The 2009's still need clutching and venting just like the 08's. The updates the dealer should do on the 08 is just about all the differences the 09 comes with. I saw for a while there they were offering 3 year bumper to bumper warranty on the 08's hold overs. Not sure if they are still doing that.

I came off an m series and went to an XP this year. So far I really like it but it is harder to lay over than an M series. With a 2 wheel kit I have heard it improves flicking it on its side and putting different skis on does make a huge difference too (rode an 09 XP with powder pros on it and it was a much different sled). Some guys even going to a 15 inch wide to help it handle better. It is noticeably lighter feeling and my legs get less fatigued (I think because the running boards are not sloped as much as the M series is where you stand).

The Cat is a very nice sled but so is the XP. A properly set up XP is very fun to ride. If you buy a new 2009 I would go for the X package. The suspension and gauge package is worth the extra $$ over the regular everest.

2 wheel kit was un-noticible on my 154. Skis may be important but my Simmons, although I love them did not make it pull on side any easier either.

154 ups.smooth comfy ride, hauls azz,fun light weight sled and it wheelies in the deep pow.
downs.stock clutching is goofy for all around riding.throttle harder to push compared to cats.no storage.

this may be true but most all dealers will not let go of x package sleds for much less than retail because they usually sell them all anyway. you would be ahead to buy the everest save some $$ and do some suspension upgrades. IMO

I thought the two wheel kit and removing the sway bar really helped on my xp.
I had a 06 m7 with a big bore kit, twin pipes, etc.. The suspension sucked compared to the xp. The xp does take a few days to get used to. If coming off of a m series sled and rideing it for a few min or even a day you would not like it. It took me a good 3 or 4 days before I was really used to it. Now I don't want to ride the cat any more. I really like the 16 wide track. I think it really helps the doo get around better then a 15 wide. My m8 with jaws twin pipes etc, I think had more power. The xp gets around better because of the track I believe. 153x15 challenger on the m8 and 154x16 on the xp.
I would consider going back to a cat because they are more reliable and alot better about their warranty then doo. I would like to ride a new cat for a day or two before I bought one again though. I would like to see how the 09 m8 compares to my xp or 06 m7/8. I would really like to see cat go to a new chassie.

i'd buy an o8 x model... mine has an ars-effex widing kit and exit shocks and it is the smoothers riding sled i've ever been on... plus an hps can helps alot to.. save the money on an 08 and buy add ons.. you wont be sorry you bought one they are nice..

we have 2 09 154x's and 2 08's- 154x and 154 everest--they have all been great sleds--all have 09 clutching except the everest and that is waiting for the shockwave adjustible reverse angle helix--we geared the 09s to 20 and the 08s to 19--all have had no issues Except i did loose a motor at 200 miles on the 08x and now have over 2000 miles without any problems--08's are fine sleds after the recalls were done--09's have had NOTHING at all --just pull and ride---

I read all the time that people think the XP is harder to pull over than a M series and it is B.S! My XP is in the shop getting a new primary so I have been riding a M8 for the past 3 rides and it handles like chit when compared to the XP, I think it pulls over way harder, tries to constantly straighten the skiis when pulling hard counter steer turns on flats, and just is not as nimble as the XP. The best way i can explain the difference is that the XP feels like a MX bike and the M feels like a snowmobile. I am impressed with how the M side hills and climbs and as long as your on the throttle it is a fun sled, but I think that old chassis has too much surface area that drags snow and it gets stuck easier than the XP. I do have a 2 wheel kit and sway bar disconnect on my XP so maybe that is the difference.
anyway to answer your ?, find the best deal 08 or 09 the XP is such a great sled...when they're not in the shop!
