long track hanging off of sled deck legalities?

I tried doing a search which turned up nothing, so here goes.

I've got an 11' long sled coming that will hang off my sled deck roughly 3'.

Will I need to tie a red flag etc off of it to be legal? What do yall do?

If this has already been covered, please provide the link. Thanks!

(STOKED for Winter :beer; )

Often wondered the same thing myself while hauling my 174 on my deck. The back bumber is roughly 4 1/2 feet from the truck bumper.

people hang lumber out the back of their trucks all the time and all that it needs is a flag so i wouldn't see why a sled would be any different. just tie a flag to the sleds bumper and i think you will be fine.

Your fine up to 4' past the tail lights. Longer than that you need those orange square flags and brake/marker lights on the end if your traveling at night. P.S this applies to Alberta.

For California it is 18" from any side of the vehicle.

In addition in daytime the flag needs to be RED 18 inches by 18 inches.

And at NIGHT (after sunset or before sunrise PLUS harzardous road and or weather conditions) you need illuminated red light visible for 100 feet.

In addition both front and rear of sled needs to be secured to vehicle.

... and yes several tickets and a court trial I know this pretty good.

All you have to do is check the motor vehicle manual from the state(s) that you will be driving in. You can access those online, then have the appropriate items with you. At night, you will either have to have reflective or electrical in many states. The U Haul type lights with the long cords work really well and would satisfy every state that I know of.

State to state..

Washington, over 3' past the rear bumper requires a 12" x 12" flag or light, light required at night. Then your good to go to up to 15' past the rear axle!!! But that's next years sleds.. :p

4' is pretty much the legal standard. I know it is for MN WI MI SD ND WY MT as I have about 3'+ hanging off my trailer when hauling 4 mountain sleds. It's all good 4' or less with no flags or markers. Anything over that needs flags minimum during the day and lights at night.
