While participating in a search and recovery of a fellow rider buried in an avy this past spring, I managed to break the locking system on my aluminum probe. Therefore, I am searching for a new probe and want to get a good one. I want to get the longest probe possible, which seems to be in the 300-320 cm range, so I not only can probe as deep as possible, and not have to bend over on each probe, so it easier on the back. The CAIC guys who were directing the search effort had some nice probes. IIRC, they were BCA Carbon 320, but it seems it has been discontinued.
As I said, I want to get a long probe, but also save as much weight as possible, so I am looking at carbon over aluminum. Any suggestions? Right now, it seems that the Black Diamond http://www.snowbigdeal.com/black-diamond-320cm-carbon-probe.html is about my best option.
