I had to cut down a live fir to make room for the power line to my shop. The tree has an awesome 30" "Burl" (sp). What should I do to preserve it other than the obvious "get it off the ground".

Should I peel it now? Wait till it drys? Peel it when it freezes?

id say put some wax or wood sealer over the area where you cut it off the tree to keep it from splitting, leave the bark on it and let it sit for a year or a year and a half to let it cure. thats going to be worth some money
