Little Bald Mountain Riding

So has anyone really done any riding up by Little Bald Mtn, taking FSR 1706 up to 1600 and up near Clover Springs? How about FSR 1605 off of Clover Springs Road. I have a cabin in the Gold Creek Summerhomes (near Cliffdell and Whistlin' Jacks) and always ridden up Gold Creek to Devils Slide, Bald Mountain, Manastash Lake, etc, etc, etc?

40 years ago we rode that area a lot. Swamp Cr or Devil Cr roads, The Nile Road, Mud Springs jeep trail to clover springs and little bald, Flat Iron lake. One year, about 1971 I think, we rode every month of the year. Had to unload at clover springs in August there was still enough snow to ride around on up there, then the snow came the end of Sept again.

We moved back to this area after being gone for 34 years. Things have changed a lot up there, roads everywhere now and I get lost trying to find those old routes. The Garage at little bald lookout has been converted into a
snowmobiler warming cabin.

You should explore it and expand your riding choices.

Wow you rode down into Flathead Lake all those years ago? impressive given the sled technology back then. Must have been a chore. Ive ridden dirtbikes up to Little Bald and saw the warming hut, nice, also rode all the way to the end of the Clover Springs Road and looked out towards the Nelson Ridge, Mount Aix and Bismark Peak, very beautiful areas. Anyhow we were thinking on making a loop taking Clover Springs Road and hitting the Mud Springs
Jeep Trail.

How would you get back to the Clover Springs Road? Orr Creek or Dry Creek of which Mud Springs is the headwaters for Dry Creek? I believe we want to come out at the field or should i call it the old Nile feeding station.

We rode elans and olympics. Yes, lots of work. Looking at a map now the whole area is a spaghetti mass of roads. The Mud springs Jeep trail follows the ridge between the Rattlesnake and the Nile. It is now the boundary of the William O Douglas Wilderness. The upper end of the mud springs jeep road comes out at the Clover springs camp ground.

You would go south east and just stay on the ridge top between the rattlesnake and the nile. In about 5 miles you would come to the bottom end of the mud springs jeep road and all the new road systems. One of those roads goes back to the nile feed lot but there are a bunch of new roads intersecting it now. From the nile feed lot the 1600 (nile road) goes back up to little bald.

There was a jeep road that took off at the clover springs camp ground that went down to flat Iron. It wasn't too bad on a snowmobile or even in a jeep. some guy even took a full sized station wagon down it. He had to get a local logger to pull it back to clover springs with a cat. I see that road and the lake are in wilderness now.
