Lions Head area protest ride!!

This is the old thread with links to maps showing closed areas.
http://snowest.com/fusetalk/messageview.cfm?catid=4&threadid=337630&enterthread=y

Dec. 22nd we're doing a protest ride in the proposed closed area near
Lions Head. This includes Coffin and Sheep!!!
Tell everyone you know, tell the local papers too if you want.
This area is one of the BEST in West and they want to close us out of a great riding area AGAIN.
We're not going to let this one go easily.
If you care about this area at all show some support and come out and ride.

THIS AREA IS SKETCHY AND CAN BE DANGEROUS DEPENDING ON SNOWFALL
BEACONS ARE MANDATORY.

For those that need lodging West Yellowstone is only 10 mins. away.
The StageCoach Inn has a hot tub and a BAR for $80 a night for 2 queens.
Otherwise Kurt at Golden West has rooms starting at $45 a night.

We could certainly do some BBQ in the parking lot if people want to bring it.

Still the same forum I see, 374 views and not one comment!!!
But the topic about the same ol chet has multiple pages....glad to see nothing has changed...oh wait that's not really a good thing.
This is why we lose areas every year.

Well I'm not layin down and letting them take anymore, if they want to take it they're going home with black eyes and bite marks....maybe some scratches too, I can get real mean sometimes.

Calm down Brent...your gonna raise your blood pressure again.
Maybe people are reading this post and thinking to themselves..."Self...you should drag your sorry butt down to West Yellowstone on the 22nd of December and join in on the protest ride to let the people who decide which areas to close off, know how it is we really feel and give them a good kick in the patoot."

But that is just my opinion of course. I won't be able to get down there because I will be there the following weekend remember.

I've read this, and think it's a good thing, but the first thing I think of is it's a bad date with it being so close to Christmas. It's great if you can get a lot of those in the area to go, or any who will be down that direction, but I think for others it's an impossible time to get away.

I hope it turns out well for you!! I applaud your efforts!! :)

Yeah I know the date isn't the greatest, it 1st turned into a few of us getting together and pissing off the FS but it started turning into something bigger.
I even contacted SAWS but for them to support this it I would have to take full responsibility for everyone and well with todays whiners and sew happy people no F'in way.

I guess I was just hoping for some responses out of this thread, maybe get some more people to come or even just get them riled up.
I have gotten some pm's about it saying if it was a different date they'd come. I guess if people are interested in taking part but the date doesn't work we can try again later.

Jeff- What's wrong with 2 weekends in a row riding??:D
One night w/o the wives (the fun night) and the following weekend with the wives (several lame nights).

I think it's a good thing snow snob, good on ya for planning it. Don't give up it yet, good things don't always work on the first try! Have more than one protest ride if the first one isn't what you're looking for. At some point the FS has to learn we carry just as big a stick as the greenies, we just are more disciplined about when we swing it!

I think it is a great idea, I have riden that area and wrecked my sled on a rock there, And I would hate to see it shut down. But living in MN I won't be able to be there. You have my support and wish everyone the best on the efforts.

Kinda funny, I've been getting pm's and replies about this mainly people from MN.
Funny because I lived there for 29 years.
Thanks for the support guys and maybe we can get a MN ride in.

from?

I could prolly make it, be tight, but a good excuse for an early ride.

If you mean parking lot, I think the best way in is the Lions Head lot but if someone knows a better way in with a parking lot that'll hold a fair amount of rigs I'm up for suggestions.

BTW dig the avatar, I just hope your a Dead fan.

there's a bunch of us headed to Yellowstone over new years. Looks like we'll be a week too late. Lionshead has some awesome riding. You boys that make it to the protest ride, have fun and be careful!!:D

What's the excuse or reason they want to put Sheep in the red zone. I'm very familiar with Lionshead Mountain itself. It looks as though it was spared. I'm not familiar with the areas west and south (in the red zone).

You're not taking into thought the local barny fife's... They hear about a protest ride & they'll have not only west's jokers, but bozeman cops there to cite, & also impound sleds.. 7 sleds on a 6 place??? they'll cram 10 on & charge you anything they want & to he*$ with any damage that's done. You'll have visions of riding like the old days & the law is lookin' through dollar signs in their pupils. But I do wish you luck Bud. Cuz the only critters up there in winter are the dead ones.

Brent, I don't have a problem with riding two weekends in a row down in West. I just can't afford to go back and forth and pay for all those tickets. LOL

If you do go down there...tell them "bad people" off for me too! Kick them in the shins...that always helps.

We are heading out there on january 6th, wish we were going to be there for that weekend. We are coming from WI and have been to the area a few times before and lionshead is a great play area. Let me know if there is anything else I can do! Thanks for taking the bull by the horns and fighting for us fellow riders!

sorry guys, when they changed the forum i forgot my password. SNowsnob, im down, not to be a hassle, but is there anyway i can ride with you from big sky to lions head if i chip in for gas?

With all the outta towners coming over New Years I'm wondering if we shouldn't have it over that weekend??
I'm sure a lot of families coming in want to do a guys ride...or should I say a more challenging ride, maybe we should have it then???

For the people who said they were in on the 22nd, whattya think about New Years weekend...nothing like bringing in the New Year putting up a fight???

I guess if the orignal guys can't do it that weekend we could still do a little lynch mod....stir the pot a little, scope out the area???

^^^new years would be cool, and i do like the idea of scopeing it out on the 22nd, then we would have a much better idea of where to go when there was a large group of people....
