Lightweight battery or not?

I really want to do the lightweight ballistic battery. . . It is about 12lbs of savings for $180. I am a bit worried how it will do on cold cold mornings when we are out west.

I could always pull it and reinstall it in the morning if it was suppose to get extremely cold. My first start up of the day is always the one I would be worried about. After that the weather is usually warmer and the sled is never shut off long enough to cool off.

What is everyones thoughts on this. I'd do a poll but have no idea how.

I have this one, just waiting on the sled to show up.
The 16 cell is a little heavier, but more amps.
They claim it will hold its charge over long periods of time
and the battery will heat up when cranking which will help with amps.

Antigravity 16 cell
600 Pulse CA 480 CCA
16 Amp Hours (PbEq)
4.25′ Long x 3.0′ Wide x 5.0′ Tall
3.1 pounds

Christopher is doing an evaluation on one of these in the Yamaha section

I'm going to try one out and see how it fairs. The stock battery weighs around 14 lbs, so this should be pretty good weight loss. Only concern is the first start of the day in a cold trailer. After the motor warms up (and if you relocate the battery) it should start the rest of the day just fine.

I have extras if anybody wants one. PM Me.

Got my battery by mail last night. Holding it in my hand it is almost comical to think this thing is going to start the sled. It is small and light. . . I am going to cut out some foam to fit it into and wrap the inside of the foam between the battery and the foam with some heat reflective tape. Supposedly as the battery is cranked it creates heat and self heats itself increasing the voltage. I also talked to a engineering here at work. He thought it would be very easy to wrap the battery with a heater and flip the switch for 10 min in the morning to warm the battery. . .I will find out more about this.

Yea but the heater weights 15 pounds!

LOL

Give me a day and I will. . . Here is something to hold you over. And no I do not have overly large hands.

Did you buy the 12 cell of the 16 cell?

I am thinking 16 cell for that little extra boost on cold mornings.

Its the 12. . . If I know it is going to be -25 I will pull the battery the night before and bring it in to stay warm with me in the house. . . Espicailly out west.

Have any of you heard or tried a Shorai? Local dealer is thinking about getting some in. The battery even comes with filling foam.. 2.19LB $100.00

I got the new shorai 360 cca and it is virtually the same size as stock but weighs almost nothing. I have done no research as my dealer sells them and is vary well educated on how they work and durability also. He told me that there selling like hotcakes for all applications because they hold up so well and they actually like the cold weather! He said that when the temp is below freezing I should turn on the key, lights, and whatever else possible to load the battery because the lithium ion unlike other batteries produces better cranking because the draw somehow produces a flow In the cells and warms the battery!!! Seems weird but he also stated that if the battery gets warm to put it in the freezer to keep it cool, also I like the fact that you dont have to disconnect the battery just remove a connection bar on the face that drains the voltage like with a diode. I also noticed that I could seriously feel a difference when I lifted the back of the sled with the shorai in it. If anyone wants some good info I can give ya the name and # of the guy I deal with.
