lifted super duty help

lifted the powerstroke 6" in oct of '06 and and put 37x13.50x18 toyo's on it. my problem is with the extra diameter of the tires i can't get it to steer very sharp anymore, the tires hit the front leaf springs. Can i get different rims with different backspacing or do i have to live with trying to turn it around like a bus:D

you need different backspacing on your wheels. not only is it a PITA that way but very dangerous, you will rub right throuh the sidewalls of your tires and one will blow going down the road. deep dish wheels look way better too!

one way or both

did you put a drop bracket on that will make it steer screwed up if you didn't, 4 inch back spacing should be all you need they're not honda's.8 inches and 40's.

I would not recomend wheel spacers! Your going to lose thread engagment on your studs. Also your 8-170 bolt pattern is hub centered, say hello to some vibration if you use spacers. If you are dead set on using spacers find a set that is a true bolt on style.Keep in mind the bolt on spacers ARE NOT LOAD RATTED! so use caution.

I've herd that from my local ford dealer aswell

This is spot on advice........

ya i've been doing some more research since they were suggested and it seems more and more people tell me to stay away from them. Sounds like a new set of rims with different backspacing would be a better investment in the long term. Or i could just live with it as i have for a year and a half already. I have extended my steering stops so they no longer rub on the springs, but it sucks to try to turn it around in a tight spot.

welcome to my world! same set-up, and same tires....how does it feel to do "the bus driver" when turning it around? you get good at it after a while, and always back in to your parking spot!

Like stated above, never even consider the spacers that sandwich in between. I've run a 1" billet spacer/adapter on my 79 for a few years now, with no issues at all. Its running 40's and lockers, and see's more then its share of abuse. They weren't cheap tho, still made it better then running two different set of wheels front and back. And as always, the farther you poke the tires out, the harder it is on wheel bearings and ball joints. Good luck finding a happy medium.

I got a brand new set of dick cepek 20 inch aluminum rims for a superduty taking up space in garage. They are 12 inch wide and they rub with 8 inch lift.Make sure your new rims are only 10 inch or you will need cut out fender flares too.

ya klubbo i have become quite the expert at manuvering it.:D Looked into some new rims and tires the last few days and after hearing how much the new tires alone will cost me i think ill just live with my "bus." $1700 for new rubber:eek:
