Liberty Big Block Project

I am planning to build a project sled that is super reliable so I am looking to use a Liberty BB 700 engine to power it. One of my must haves for this project is I want to have PERC reverse on the sled. I know that PERC came on 2003-2005 engines and I would prefer to find an engine that came with PERC if possible, less hassle. However, I was wondering how far back I could go in the Liberty Big Block 700's and be able to retro the electronics to add PERC on an earlier Liberty engine? Thanks!

PERC

You can go back as far as the 18 degree flywheel (4010677) and stator (4010697) will mount on the crankshaft and block.

Then you get an oil pump with the number 18 engraved on the lever.(#2540102 2003 and newer)

Harness and CDI with PERC.

You're home free.

Depends on how you want to engage it for the next step. You can set it up for a momentary (like a spring loaded kill switch) or you can get ahold of the actual left hand control with the yellow button. If you go that route you'll need a different harness. The momentary just jumpers the white/grey wires coming out of the CDI.

Let me know as I most likely have a harness, control and CDI harness. I think I sold all my CDI's with some engines I recently sold with PERC on them.
I might have an oil pump as well.

If you don't use electric start you can set it up so the reverse is operated by turning the key to start. I can't remember how I did it, but I found the info somewhere in this forum. Works well, keep things clean.

Awesome... thanks for the info on what parts I need and also what options I have in wiring it up! I first do some digging in my parts bins to see what I have already. Once I know what I might already have I can then contact SW members for the parts I need to complete my project! What are the most common years that the flywheel and stator were produced?

Parts

The oil pump, stator, harness, and flywheel are the same for 7 and 800's. The CDI is different between models. Don't buy a CDI that's just stamped 18 degrees. The safest way to get the right CDI is to get one from an 04 or 05 because it was a dealer installed option on 03 and I;m not sure what the part number was in the kit for the PERC install.

Sometimes on e-bay someone is still selling the total replacement kit for a 2003.

04 and 05 went to DET so you need to at least plug the sensor in, even if you just tie it off to the side. I changed out my head so that I could have that feature too.

Just a tip, its pretty easy to drill and tap a head to fit a DET sensor. I got an SLP headset from a non-DET motor for cheap then just drilled and tapped for the DET sensor. Saved some coin going that route.

In 03' the Vertical Escapes had reverse, otherwise it was just a dealer installed option. 04' & 05' all the RMKs had PERC.

If you need help, I have everything you need. Both experience and parts. I have lots if parts from my project, including a full bolt in 800 with carbs, pipes, engine plate, etc.

Pm me if you need anything.
